I can't actually say I know, but I'm pretty sure Milley, Austin, and maybe Blinken might be forced to resign to save Biden's ass. It won't be enough given how unlikeable Biden is, but if they want to preserve their meat puppet as long as they can, sacrificing Cabinet members can stave off the fallout. If Biden is removed, Harris gets placed in charge, but she can't escape the fallout once people perceive her to be the power behind the throne, which is why she's dodging attention herself.

As far as foreign relations go, doubt in US leadership means that there's no coalition of the willing to help invade another weak, third-world country. Even the thought of invading Afghanistan again will not be enough to regain credibility, so a unilateral campaign would never have popular support except to either free the hostages or, failing that, glass the entire country. Taiwan is, and I've always said this, be in the most peril without US logistical support. China might not engage them directly, but as a desert island, if they can cut off the surrounding neighbors like the Philiphines or South Korea, they can starve them out.

And from what I know negotiations happen all the time there, it is, after all, a country made up of various tribes and ethnicities that have gotten along for a hundreds of years.
