So to insert a bit more politisperging.
Let us be clear on something, the media sucks. The media really sucks.
Let us be clear on a second thing, the general populace are very inattentive.
These two things together are the root of a lot of people I am seeing assuming that all Biden has to do is lie a bit and put a good face on it all and in a couple weeks time or even a couple years time everyone will forget.
So let us be clear on one last thing. That's not how this works.
To explain why let's revisit a prior topic I sperged on.

Within I described the three criteria needed to catch the center's attention, these were:
1: It needs to be Easily Digestible.
2: It has to come from sources they like/trust.
3: It has to have a clear connection to someone or something in power.
Now, what do I mean by catch the centers attention? Well, the center is largely made up of your inattentive general populace. The center-right and left alongside the moderates who aren't tuned in to politics beyond the surface level news feeds, word of mouth, and facebook memes. This is your "I just want to grill" crowd and they could not give less of a fuck about politics 9 times out of 10. The criteria above must have all elements met in order to make that 1 out of 10 occurrence be a thing. The problem is it's a surprisingly high bar to reach, and thus the general populace usually ignores most things and small soundbites quickly shape their opinion of it because they do not care to look even a millimeter deeper.
But what happens if the attention is gained? Well, now you deal with an entirely different beast. The center is inattentive, meaning it's easy to pull the wool over their eyes. The problem then is that very thing, an easy strength for a liar... but also a crippling flaw to them. Because when something does crop up, it inevitably blindsides the general populace. Those who were tuned in had already built up their expectations and grim acknowledgments, but the general populace gets every last bit of it fresh. This breeds a certain amount of... discontent. And just as they were slow to learn of the issue, they are also very slow to -forget- the issue now that they know of it. And because it blindsided them, they are angry about it, incredibly uncharitable, and now expecting to be lied to repeatedly about it.
So, does the Afghanistan stuff qualify?
Eminently yes.
Is it digestible? "Biden fucked up the withdrawal leaving U.S. Citizens and Afghanis who helped us stranded". This is immediately digestible, and what is worse every bad step from it is just as digestible. "Stranded people get killed by Taliban", "Biden's withdrawal claims big numbers, still stranded people", "Troops have left, with people still stranded". It's a conga line of digestibility.
Will there be sources they trust? Word of mouth and facebook memes, hell even the news covered it enough that the general populace picked it up. It will spread like wildfire even if every news outlet decided to sing Biden praises suddenly.
Does it have a clear connection? Fuck yah, his name comes up in the digestibility thing. What is worse, it implicates a ton of people outside the digestibility standard.
This won't be forgotten. Not due to some misplaced optimism, but because the situation meets every single criterion to be exactly the kind of thing the general populace sits up and takes notice of. This kind of situation is what cratered Carter, lead to even Reagen dipping below 50% for a couple of years, and is practically textbook.
