General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I'll apologize in advance for my autism, I should have just closed the site and stuck with watching Korone.

He doesn't need to: the girls refer to themselves as Idols in his stead. I've even heard most-if-not-all of the HoloMyth girls refer to themselves as such, so it's clear they weren't told that they'd be 'the same - but different'. Council haven't referred to themselves as Idols, which is probably why Hakos got away with instantly announcing that she's a massive HoloStars simp, but it's less to do with Cover clearing up misunderstandings and moreso them trying to change course now that they want to have their cake and eat it.

The fact remains that you don't make an all-female group of 50+ fucking members, all waist deep in kayfabe, if they weren't trying to sell themselves as Idols. Why they want to move away from that in EN is simply because the West care more about the entertainers, and have been the most vocal about letting HoloStars get more scraps of Hololive's lions' share.

The problem is that idol culture' is so deeply-engrained in Cover's business that just suddenly removing that label from one of your branches feels so forced and unnatural that it feels pointless to even try. The fans aren't going to treat them differently and I doubt they even want to. If Cover wanted to market them as non-idols they should have started with EN1, not their fucking V-Singer.

My completely unsubstantiated rrat is that the JP branch have been annoyed that their branch isn't the most popular in the company and want to strip the EN girls of their 'Idol Status' so at least they can just be considered a separate thing.

Sure that's your perception, and while sometimes you're more neutral, this is one of your "Cover/Hololive" is shit posts. As I would say many of the girls don't really keyfabe as anything more than "side content" like any vtuber, Niji, small company or indie. Most of the girls aren't selling themselves as idol "idols", (Unless you actually mean they're parasocial bating) and use the "idol" word as a joke as most of them aren't and don't want to be considered "idols", but how do you shift something that's so ingrained. There are also more members who would colab with Holostars if not for the "Hololive are idols" garbage the community placed on them, I don't care how much Cover pushed the "idol" idea, It's another one of those fucking annoying japanese cultural things, I hate with a passion.

Holostars haven't been forgotten or ignored, just like everyone in the company they all get the same treatment, it just doesn't help anyone who doesn't have the numbers to stand out. There are a number of members who try to give extra help and colab. But there are lots of members who can't without having a toxic fall out from their individual communities, and when most of them are too scared to take a few days off for serious medical issues worried people will leave, they're not going to rock the boat by colab with "men".

Them removing the "japanese cultural" stuff for the EN branch probably just comes down to the fact, it's not a north america/europe cultural thing, and Gen 1 was an experiment and so they mixed in things that worked for the JP branch, which they no longer feel is necessary and possibly at this point even think is a detriment to their overseas growth/expansion.

Your rrat. Is that JP management or members, because except on a few occasions (Which was only partial related to EN) the JP members seem as interested and excited about the EN girls as they are of the JP girls.

Correct me if I've wrong, but I don't think I've ever seen her really TRY to tard wrangle her chat. I've seen Ame tear into the TeaMates tons of times, and not afraid to time/ban people. But in all of the times I've seen Sharky stream, I don't think I've seen her crack down at all. Especially after shit like that Among Us collab where they harrassed Iofi.

Gura's chat having a melt down from their perceived slight in the amongus colab, is a big reason Gura didn't colab outside of Gen mates for so long and also probably her lack of interaction on twitter and in chat. Even though she's up their in terms of introvert, she really wants to colab with her sempai from the JP branch and seems to finally be feeling up to trying. Gura is kind of hands off with her chat, she'll tease and poke fun of and has banned people in the past, though if they were just bots/spammers or retards I don't remember anymore, but the complication with her chat is partial she wasn't a full time streamer so her expience is limited before joining unlike Ame and how do you keep 14-25k people under control without turning your chat into north korea with a team of mods.

Plus I know she had a lot of people from her shit posting past, but fuck me a lot of them are toxic pieces of shit, similar to what Ame had to deal with. So her community is a mess, though will probably get better over time, with her current content and some pushing from mods.

Well this was a waste of fucking time, I don't know why I'm bother to argue about any of this shit, as none of us know what the fucking retards who actual control Cover are thinking or doing. Yagoo and A-chan are just doing the best they can with what they're told is the direction the company is going in, or it's focus. All we're doing is shitting out ill-informed diarrhea all over the place like we know anything.

Edit: will just add I don't mean any ill @Scuttle , I've liked your posts about Niji as I don't get to check them out much.

Sigh Lastly: Colabs as a whole are tricky, we don't know what kind of vetting or whatever management does before okaying one, but you also have schedules which vary, Mori has so much going on behind the scenes there is no way of telling who caused it to take so long, or even if she had been trying for long. Even organizing colabs with other members can be a nightmare because of schedules. Would it be nice if these outside colabs could happen more often more quickly, sure. But again we have no real info on who they want to colab with, how long it takes or why it takes as much time as it does.

Watching Kiara Lasagna stream and all the simps begging her to keep her normal voice like she did is amusing, she blame the mic she used on her living room that is a Razr (she has a tendency to pick absolute garbage for equipment not like Calli that has a blue yeti) she is definitely less annoying with that voice

Most of the girls aren't selling themselves as idol
If it serves as consolation the "idol" thing has become a joke and a meme everywhere i dont think anyone outside JP fits the bill for it

So...are we not gonna have a 50+ page convo about Calli's silence during the tournament, and how she probably hates Mario Kart and all her genmates?

In all seriousness though, knowing how to drift would've saved Calli a lot of trouble in these races.

Next thing we know, she will put down couple grand for a recording studio grade mic etc. I can totally see the chicken do that. Since her avatar is criminally look like herself, it would be funny if she actually cosplay as herself in the next DokiKomi thing in Germany when the covid is down.

Keep in mind that JP gachikois are still salty that the owl had a boyfriend and no longer pure 😂. Why are they that surprise tbh. I wonder how they feel that years ago they mounted a slander campaign against Kiara when she was still an idol in Japan.

Gura was surprisingly competent, I guess it really was the lag, although she still tends to run into walls during turns. Ina's training really paid off, the only one close to her was Irys.

Gura: Don't you send that shell, Kiara, I will kick your ass.
I'm not super-experienced with current MK so maybe it was just how it normally works, but it seemed like Gura was also constantly getting knocked around by weapons and still managed to consistently place in the top half.
Gura is simply never collaborating outside of her branch
She's already done a few collabs with ID, probably because language isn't going to be a barrier.

Regarding "idols," the saying "Remember, Hololive is an idol company... and then forget it tomorrow" long predates the EN branch.

In all seriousness, you seem relatively new. We go through this shit every few weeks. It really comes down to, "If only Cover were an American company because the autistic threat-adverse way Japanese corpos are run is maddening".

Been here awhile as a lurker, only made the account more recently so should know better. Lets just say I was tired and my autism was playing up, so I failed to stop myself from being a retard sperg.

I offer this image to appease the gods.

It's already been said. It was super late during the collab for her and she's staying with her parents right now. She didn't want to talk a lot and disturb them.
Time for some professional entertainment. Finally some asmr you can understand vs Lamy and Noel.
I actually listened to a bit of her old stuff to see what she's like. Mostly weeb bait like maid Cafe and succubus girlfriend stuff. She does mostly roleplay on her old channel but she seems to be doing more ear triggers this time. It may be too soon for her to start with the slightly lewd ASMR and I don't think shes done anything like Canan or Mel's roommate. It's pretty tame.

Too busy watching the rrat playing the game. Plus no interest in Mario Kart for me.

I'll be honest, when I first saw the title from Ame, I literally thought she was not playing a game and doing a weird skit stream :story:

Still waiting for known vtuber to play Synthetik(Tenma/Lia didn't play the game due to something so no Hey Hey People there(:_() and Dead Cells.

Nah, she has that bored as fuck voice in video games or when she does thing outside of her range, her tones change quickly when she does something she likes like the TTRPG, she needs a good dose of getgoodium

They can fuck off because EN is not for them, is for we filthy western weebos, they have their fucking 5 gens, i hope some of them try to purify the gene pool by not feeling so good like that cunt that tried when Amelia was show to have been to close from another penis haver

Edit: Owl has tried 2 times already to start the stream and the EN curse is back and better than ever

> Accuses my post of being an anti-Cover comment despite not using any language that could reasonably be interpreted as such.
> Calls the people in charge of Cover retards when I didn't.

You know, a lot of the time when I'm accused of saying anti-Cover/Hololive rhetoric, I'll look back on it or scroll through and own up to where I went wrong. I like to think I'm consistent with this; as even though my written form is very good in real-life, composing a well-balanced response all the time in this thread requires a lot of time that I don't want to use up, so I simply ramble and flesh out my thoughts as discussions continue.

However - and I won't be a faggot about this - it feels like people want to wilfully misinterpret what I say in order to get one over on me when I disagree on something, because one of the long-term stigmas against me is that I'm a Niji Tribalist (the other is that I'm a V-Tuber's father fwiw). I'm just gonna assume it's been a bad day at the office and not hold it to you. You're free to disagree with my 'perception' but that's all it is - a difference in views. I'm not going to call you a Loyalist for thinking differently.

Back on the subject at hand:

I didn't think it was a controversial statement that Hololive is an idol unit. At their core, Cover own an all-female unit, and all-male unit, and INNK which is a solo idol music production sect. They have coordinated idol outfits, sell idol merch, the name of their last concert was 'Hololive IDOL PROJECT - BLOOM'. It's not a good or bad thing, but it IS there, and even though gachikoi are being cunts in every company (RIP Lulu), it's more part and parcel of the job when you market yourself to the breeding grounds of gachikoi in Japan.

And you're right: they ARE entertainers. If AKB became streamers with their rules and regulations they'd be as boring and sterile as a flavourless durex sachet, but it's also not the fans' nor streamers' problem that management have suddenly decided they want to move away from their original intent - but only for ONE branch, a whole year after its launch, whilst keeping the other branches intact.

If calling that poor planning or messy HAS TO MEAN I think Cover is shit then I guess I'll get comfortable thinking Cover is shit.

(Also my rrat was a joke don't worry about it).

Time for some professional entertainment. Finally some asmr you can understand vs Lamy and Noel.

B-But we've had Wosemi ASMR for weeks now....

Not sure where this new wave of rrats about not using gen numbers is coming from. We knew since Feb that they wouldn't be using gen numbers.

And we've known since April what their reasoning for it was and none of it was Idol related or "to get away from Senpai/Kouhai relationships" thanks to the EN producer interview back then.

Archive
"Incidentally, the reason why we chose the word "Myth" to describe the first group is partly because we don't want to use expressions such as "first-generation members," but mainly because we think that if we use numbers, it's easy for people to develop preconceptions about the prioritization of different groups, which makes it difficult to maintain fairness for all hololive English members."
So it's about concerns that the numbering system gives some impression of prioritization, that the company will favor Gen 1 over Gen 2 (and onward) Probably they've had some issues with this in other branches and with EN they had an opportunity for a fresh start and to avoid that structure where with JP and ID they're kind of locked into the scheme at this point and can't break away from it now.

Of course fans are gonna keep using it as shorthand but I don't think they've ever tried to discourage fans from it and whether or not the fans use their names or the Gen# as shorthand isn't even important for their stated reasoning since they just wanted to break away from it as their internal scheme to avoid a perception. As long as they (Cover/Hololive) adhere to it themselves they've accomplished their goal and what the fans use is beside the point.

Nah, she has that bored as fuck voice in video games
Only when the game is chosen by J-chad to get big numbers. These recent gaming streams have been great because she is finally playing games she actually likes.
Well maybe outside of Doom which is just her autism wanting to beat it.

Also, I was looking on the Hololive page for usage of the term 'Idol' and found this.

It's been a whole year by the way, and if you think the whole site is outdated, that is not the case as EN2 are on their page.

This has been pointed out before, and Cover was accused of not being able to fix their website. And, then some pointed out that the design of the website, even how the talents are showcased, could have been done better.

Oof. It's kind of sad that China basically pissed its pants and banned them just because someone read a certain independent country's name that was on the screen.
