Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

She is virtually the only thing being discussed in REVIII, it seems.

Once chinese get the whiff of her popularity, we will probably get 200$ giant blowup dolls of her. Unless these already exist.
Sucks too because the whole sub-plot with Heisenberg is a lot more intriguing. Guy's only working with the others because he's forced to and is trying to out a means of escaping miranda and getting back to a normal life.
For 40$? No that how much there are on the Gift store. I think you could get one for around 70$ to 250$+ depending on the seller , store front and the rarity of the doll. But you can still find some non bootleg Fumos on the second hand market that are under a hundred bucks it's just all harder now.
I've seen them for $40 or $30 a few places but that was fucking forever ago now, like almost a decade maybe? It's all scalpers and bootlegs and scalped bootlegs nowadays from what I saw briefly looking into that rabbit hole shits nuts. Then again fucking everything and anything is being scalped online right now at insane prices. Consoomers are notorious for fueling or causing scalping surges it's like a weird fucking symbiotic relationship.

I just want to say that I really appreciate this thread (well, until the Butter Wars started raging) and its attempt at nuance and reasonable critique.

It's probably the only anti-consumerism place on the entire fucking internet that hasn't devolved into either "mindless consumerism bad, therefore communist revolution now" or "mindless consumerism bad, therefore reactionary theocratic revolution now".

there is limited discussion of them earlier in the thread I believe
I was reading the thread and didn't see it, must have glossed over it

I mentioned starcitizen and CS:GO skins as i feel they best demonstrate the gaming side of consumerism, i remember back during the high point of csgo sking gambling arguing with people about it and reading about consoomers here gives me deja vu "its a INVESTMENT DUDE these skins are gonna be super expensive soon if valve takes away the case they come from" "it doesn't matter if this useless item costs 1300 USD i can just sell it later and get my money back" only thing i can see different is they dont try to get every single one like funko collectors (they still do get all since they need to open a thousand cases for that 0.0001% rarity knife)

StarCitizen is even worst, i've never seen a group of people more delusional over a game, they seriously think StarCitizen will be the best game ever made and that they will get to act smug over us peasant for doubting them spending 100,000 USD on a PNG in the StarCitizen website, they just need to wait 1 3 5 9 more years for it to happen, it could literally be the best game ever and that would still not be reasonable, yet they still start salivating over the chance to spend more money whenever the Devs release a new set of 3D renders, their love for PNGs is only matched by gacha players

I get what you mean though, r/consoomproduct became nothing but sperging about jews, and consoomerism was hardly discussed.
I remember the last time I was there, Baby Yoda was the big popular thing and so spergs were making a bunch of shitty CGI gifs of him being murdered in bloody ways. Not exactly interesting discussion.

Now there's r/consoom which seems more on topic. I was there today and saw a clip of a guy entering his dimly lit apartment, and all the walls looked oddly white and "pixelated" from floor to ceiling.

Took me a second to realize the "pixels" were hundreds of funko boxes...

It's a brilliant move if you're sufficiently cynical - gamers have shown over and over that they'll happily invent the most unrealistically amazing experience in their heads if a company merely spends enough on hype.

Remember when Spore came out? Or No Man's Sky? Or Cyberpunk 2077? They were all going to change the face of entertainment forever and finally make consoomers' meaningless lives fulfilling.

It looked that way a few months ago, but going there now they seem to be going in the other direction - "why actually own anything?" Like this post:

Yeah maybe that guy doesn't need every game, but overall that is a modest collection compared to alot of others I've seen. "Roms are free"! types are the same people who scorn those who may actually want to own the media they enjoy instead of e-'ownership' on globohomo's cloud that they can take from you on a whim.

Just one example, but the subreddit is full of that.

Wish i could see more from that account but he went private

Physically owning a FULL set is absolutely retarded though.
Like you really need to own some crappy shovelware game that you will never play more than 10 seconds.

I mean, large hard drives exist. What you're suggesting seems like a false dichotomy.

If you're willing to live with that much stuff, that's cool, but I'd much, much rather be able to play practically every single console game ever made with a decent PC and a handful of USB controllers. And it cost me infinitely less too.

I absolutely agree, in fact I think alot of the video game bubble was because of these types even before the 'investors' and scam artists, but the point the poster was making that 'lol just use roms bro' after seeing (in the scheme of things, mind you) a not-that-large collection.

Many, many games are not emulated right, and this is especially true for arcade games. Others have specialized controls, or abuse the hardware in odd ways. To this day, Nintendo 64 games are emulated like dog shit. Sometimes, it's just easier to own the real thing instead of maintaining massive warez libraries. I want to support the companies/artists/writers that make a good product as well.

I just like to have the games/movies/books I enjoy, and not some e-copy. E-books have been a thing for awhile, but plenty of people just prefer the real paper.

He was saying it to someone who seems to want to go for a full set.

Modchips, everdrives, etc are a thing.

E-books hurt my eyes if I spend more than about half an hour reading one, and the lack of actually turning the pages and just scrolling/turning electronic "pages" makes the book seem to take an eternity to get through since there's no sense of progress.

Plus, a printed book isn't subject to change, censor, or deletion from remote sources.

I'd rather live with the relatively minor issues associated with emulation than own all that stuff. I can start playing Super Mario 64 on my PC in a matter of seconds and get 98% of the original experience or I can own a Nintendo 64, controllers, cartridges, cables, a CRT TV, and have to hook it up every time I want to play the game.

It's all about what you prioritize, but I know what side of that equation I fall on by a long shot.
