Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Mandate of Heaven isn't purely religious. It's also a bit of a Tao thing. There is always shit that is thrown at you in life, but if you're actually doing a good job you can not just weather the bad but use the bad to galvanize your own faction into achieving greater heights. Life is nothing without challenge, no victory is glorious without overcoming opposition.

But if you lose the Mandate of Heaven, if you're a fucking senile shitbag, then it's like getting punched in the face over and over again.

My friend, I was just going for a pithy comment. You are of course correct, a person who has the Taoist concept of the Mandate of Heaven is one who inspires his subordinates and constituents. Biden does not do that, he only has cronies who are vying for power.

Anyone that thinks political leaders have any control over weather are dumb. The only things they can do are work on fast responses and maybe encourage better infrastructure and building codes in those regions most affected by hurricanes so less overall damage happens. Even then, most of that stuff is in the hands of mayors and governors anyway.

Agree and I said it's all-around BS, but after seeing people reeeee at Trump for somehow being able to call up Harvey and Irma and not caring about Puerto Rico...it's only fair.

They'll still use it to blame Trump. I can already imagine how it'll be posed too. "Look at what Trump did! He ignored all these climate warnings and pulled us out of the Paris accord to keep us from paying carbon taxes, and look at this now, a super hurricane!"
