Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Ehhh yes and no depending on your interpretation. You can "pray" to anything in terms of speaking to etc, lots of people "pray" and "speak" to deceased relatives etc or ask them for strength and that's not necessarily considered sinful to my knowledge, since the Bible does talk about angels keeping watch etc and they are important figures. The issue comes up with shit like what the Catholics believe where you pray for salvation through some priest or saint or something like that. Jesus was pretty plainspoken - no one goes to the Father except through him. If you're going to a priest to relay your prayers to God you're not going to God through Jesus, you're putting that faith into a man who has had the gall to declare himself "Christ's vicar". But that's neither here nor there to a man like Biden.

As someone who came from a "poor, uneducated rural area" - you were right for the first half somewhat, but really went Twitter tier rant on the second lol. Dude, not many people, even your general redneck, not even the redneck racists, are all that enthusiastic about joining the army just to kill brown people. If they want to kill brown people so badly there are much easier ways. What it really boils down to and why the military has such a saturation at the grunt level of people from rural backgrounds is a mix of what @Aidan said and also about economics. When you grow up in a community that is so poor and so poorly served that the options for most kids upon graduation boil down to "convenience store clerk," "mechanical engineer" or "coal miner", the risk of getting shot in a foreign country for 4 or 8 year terms sounds a bit more manageable when you remember all the benefits you get with it too. Sometimes if they're lucky and know someone and didn't get into much trouble in high school they can have a shot working on a local police force and getting paid dogshit wages to give tickets to people they see at church on Sunday.
It was really shitty at my high school graduation because there were legit kids from my class I had known all my life who were about to go sign up at the recruitment office, not because of patriotism nor because of wanting to go shoot brown people, but because they had been so unprepared by public education and didn't want to get relegated to dying a slow death of black lung by the time they hit 55. The only way for people like that TO get out of an environment like that, at least the only way they saw, was to go serve in the Army and then use the GI bill to pay for college if they survived their tour.

Except the majority of their rage was made-up bullshit when it came to trump, otherwise "Orange Man Bad" wouldn't have been a thing. At least with Biden, it's justified rage.

The Vietnam situation is a huge case of historical irony, because the fact is that China will eventually either annex or heavily control Vietnam and obviously Vietnam itself doesn't want this. So the only alternative is to get buddy-buddy with the United States, the defeat of which the entire modern state of Vietnam is built around.

So yes, it is very weird to see US leaders being paraded around various anti-American war monuments. But the actual need for a US-Vietnam relationship is real.

If they were dealing with Trump, they'd be making progress. They don't seem to know the Democrats have been bought by the Chinese government.
