Bob should be busier than any time in US movie history. Right now I could write a 12 page script and get major actors (not currently doing cap shit) for my film, and my film produced for almost no money by a streaming service.

9/11 at first seemed like the big unifying event pointing towards an external threat, but that was starting to wear off even before Bush left office. In fact, Bush seemed to provide the perfect cover for people to get at each others throats again.

For example - I used lurk on the site TheTruthAboutCars.com, which had a whole series on what soon developed into the bankruptcy of GM and Chrysler. The articles themselves tried to point out the flaws in the Detroit mindset and the companies' and unions' inability to adapt to a changing market, placed all the blame on incompetent leadership, and even gave insight/advice on how change in order to both save those companies and their workers - the comments were a different story. Instead of people discussing ways in which GM, Chrysler, and the UAW could be salvaged and those jobs saved - because no sane person would want to see an American icon go bankrupt or see American workers lose their jobs - the discussions were a narcissistic tribal pit fight.

Lolberts were proclaiming that this was natural and if a bunch of people get unemployed, they get unemployed. Southerners were saying "git gud yankees!" and (correctly) pointing out that they were able to host car manufacturing without the companies taking a loss on each vehicle sold. And then there were the hard core Rust Belters/Michiganders (and undoubtedly UAW employees) who wanted no change, and demanded that it all be fixed by banning the importation of foreign cars, banning foreign car makers like Toyota and Honda from having assembly plants in the U.S. (all in red states) and more or less calling for the forced de-industrialization of the South and other non-union states so that all manufacturing would return to union states, and that if you lived in these states and objected to it you were an anti-American traitor. Needless to say - both due to my regional location as well as this visceral attitude they had- I actually wound up hoping for the Detroit auto companies to fold and for these peoples livelihoods to be upended.

Thinking about it, the attitudes of those pro-GM/Detroit/Union posters really turned me off from wanting to see any kind of aid go to those companies, their employees, and their families. Acting like a shit head who wants others to suffer is actually a great way to convince others not to give you what you want. A lesson the MovieBob's of the world could learn.
