The official Speaker of the Taliban had an interview with the biggest Austrian Newspaper.
He said that the Taliban will take criminal Afghan asylum seekers who get deported in again.
This is pretty huge, because all of Europe had to stop deportations to Afghanistan.
Now, all asylum seeking immigrant groups have a pretty big rate of criminality, but the Afghans are the worst by far. A few weeks back, a group of Afghan "minors", who were inspected and found to be adults, drugged, raped and killed a 13 year old Austrian girl. It was big enough to rule the press cycle for a while, here and in Germany.
This move of the Taliban will bring the European politicians in a very difficult situation. The population wants Afghans deported. Most conservative governments repeatedly promise that criminal Afghans will be deported. They had an excuse now to stop it, because of the reconquest of Afghanistan through the Taliban, and that the airports weren't even open.
They will have to either face the wrath of the citizens who want the promised deportations, or to work with the Taliban, giving their government legitimacy.
There is no way the Taliban can lose face over this, if anything, a respectable part of Austria, Germany and co will warm up to them.
A very smart move, but the Taliban is kicking the west's ass in Propaganda warfare since the beginning of their offensive.
