Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Libertarianism, on its face, is not a terrible idea.

The problem is how it is nearly impossible to live up to it, and how people can twist it to justify all sorts of bullshit while remaining silent on other things.
I feel like a lot of us here are, at heart, just live-and-let-live libertarians wondering what the hell happened.
Graham is a snake but he is right and pushing some solid logic. The next clip cuts off how he doesnt believe the '10%' number and believe its 1000s if not 10s of 1000s before he mentions afghan allies.

Makes me feel not so bad about being a civvie.

I wanna look all these politicians, activists, journos, and other such subversives in the eyes and ask them: "why should I fight and die for you?"

IDK why, but today I'm getting a strange whiff from this.

I was sure when Kabul fell, they'd do something, and as each day passed, and things got worse, my faith in humanity dried up. But THIS thing...gives me strange vibes.
Like THIS just might be the thing that gets the pedopotato out of the White House.

Don't know why... just a strange feeling...
You need a nucleation point for impeachment. It's not enough just for bad things to happen or incompetence for most people to support it. You need something the person actively did to have everyone focus their anger on.

This is something Biden proactively did. Something very hard to defend. Something that arguably got 13 soldiers killed. And something everyone knows in the back of their minds he did for a photo op.

I doubt he'll be impeached or even then convicted and removed. But it is a hell of a good story to build an impeachment out of.

For those wondering, Capt. Sam Brown's face is scarred like that because he was hit with an IED...in Afghanistan, of course. He's running for senate in Nevada.

he will scare the shit out of dems

ETA: Both of Nevada's senators are old white dem women.

What the hell happened (and it’s my fault too) is we all said fuck it, the system of checks and balances will cover us, there will be small increase in spend usually and a couple fucked up things will happen, but the system of checks and balances will cover it.

oops.

I'm just a layman at this and am very interesting in what @Gehenna makes of this.

My theory is that their thinking is that you don't switch horses in the middle of a race. They had to get through the actual crisis and get our military off the ground before they threw him under the bus.

Well, we went wheels up yesterday, left Americans and our allies behind and then Biden had his little victory dance this afternoon.

I'm envisioning that scene from the Hunger Games (I have kids, I don't get to pick what I watch anymore) where Katniss and that blonde asshole buck the system slightly on their propaganda tour, get called on the carpet by President Snow for upsetting the apple cart and spend the rest of their tour doing damage control. At the end, President Snow said it wasn't enough and sent them into a second Hunger Games to die. I think that's what we just watched in real life.

The powers that be watched this, saw that it went bad and then decided that Biden isn't going to be able to staunch the bleeding. I think they've decided to cut him loose and are going to try their hand with Kamala. This isn't some random Goldstar family calling into an AM Radio Station or a news camera picking up something inopportune. This is the transcript from a phone call with the President of the United States. This doesn't just fall into your lap accidentally. This is a political hit.

What makes me upset about this is that, for most people supporting this, it comes down to... new food. A majority of these don't even mention anything else (and yeah, I'm counting "new neighbors" and "for starters" as mentioning other things, I am scraping this damn barrel), and that makes me sad. It's not even about offering them a chance at a new life, or making new friends with very different cultural experiences, or seeing what wonders their children will make with the freedom and opportunity America provides. Imagine, their child coming home with a new best friend or boy/girlfriend who was born in Kabul or Kandahar or somewhere else exciting! Imagine, a BBQ with neighbors who see clear blue sunny skies very differently than you do! Because I don't think they are! I think that, for them, it's about shoving something slightly different in their maw and being able to more readily consume something different, having a new underclass for them to kindly exploit as much as possible in their endless pursuit of consumption.

At least the people wondering about what it could mean are considering all the possibilities. Even assuming everyone involved has good intentions and enough resources to make it feasible, it's still not easy to start a new life somewhere, especially not when you're fleeing a war from several thousands of miles away, and it's not always easy for a community to adapt. And as well-intended as these commentators might be, they're reducing these survivors to a new variety of funko-pop or fast food sensation. To cooks and chefs and waitstaff willing to entertain safely from behind a kitchen or with the subtle threat of losing the business of their new, "enlightened" clientele looming over their every interaction and making them a safe other to entertain their new neighbors.

Fuck me. I'm sorry, that got a bit out of hand. But it pisses me off to see people reduced to means to an end like this. Everybody deserves better than that.

It isn’t the new food or the new thing to consume, those are just words to signal to others (and delude themselves into thinking) that they are the good people. No, these people only see the Kabul survivors as show animals. Not even a means to an end. People that see others as a means to an end will usually put in the token effort to look like a genuine ally. They will show you the ropes, get in your good graces, and only pull the rug from under you when it is clear that you can’t get them any further in their goals.

These bastards are only looking at them as the potential blue ribbon at their minority fair. Not even wanting these newcomers to have a job or a place to be, they just want the new arrivals to be pretty in the corner.

This is exactly what I predicted back when the Arizona audit was supposed to be released. And some guy over in Happenings scoffed and said I had no proof or anything coherent to back up what I was saying. I had already said that we have TWO state Governors already who defy his ass, and do it pretty loudly. I said that Putin already has more or less made it known what he thinks of Biden.
Lol I remember that.

The real problem is that Libertarianism is impossible because nobody will realistically ever let it take place.
Power-hungry types would never let it happen. Live-and-let-live becomes impossible when everyone else wants you to bend the knee and kiss the ring or else face death.
