Expanding on this a little because it amuses me. Democrats spent so long in power they decided they wanted to stay in power. They spent huge amounts of resources ensuring the opposition was their lapdogs, creating a uniparty apparatus. Then Trump came along and shat all over it. So they united the Uniparty and the elements that have slowly grown to hate them and cheated Trump out of office.
The problem is that doing so revealed just how many underlying conditions they had.
Faced with real opposition they have discovered that:
1: They have NO idea how to battle a culture war anymore. Their ground soldiers all scream and hashtag but don't -do- anything, and their commanders were either destroyed to protect the Uniparty from outside influence or lost the spark.
2: Their attempts to make Controlled Opposition lead to actual opposition as soon as their grip loosened. The Progressives aren't a cute faction controlled by Bernie anymore, they have actual grassroots support. And Republicans increasingly break from the RINOs to support functioning candidates.
3: All their focus on maintaining control left them with no way to handle actual attacks. They are forced to use blunt mechanisms like censorship which have historically only ever backfired in the long-term.
In short, they became such good puppet masters they forgot how to do -anything else-.

My issue is that mainstream Republican party doesn’t even try to get better at implementing controlled versions of the game, when they’re the primary victims of it.
Democrats want a Supreme Court nominee? That nominee goes through an extensive vetting process that almost guarantees that nominee will align with their interests. Republicans don't have this vetting process, resulting in de facto 3-3-3 court.

I liken it to espionage in war. Sure, you could avoid using spies and counterintelligence, for the rightful fear that overly relying on them will eventually make that intelligence operation permanent and targeted at your own populace. But not playing the game means you have no effective counter—ever. And that will sink you.
It‘s a balancing act, and one I won’t pretend isn’t risky. But I think it’s one that must be done. Thankfully, the populist wing of the GOP seems to at least be trying to do that. Let’s see how effective they are.

I've listened to a lot of conservative talk pundits since 2015 and on. One thing I've come to realize is how close they all try to keep their talking points. The big names all take money from the same donors with the same kinds of ties. The politicians themselves though have an even better racket.
One of the top sponsors for CPAP is Alphabet/Google. When I think about that, it makes sense why the GOP never really did anything and continues to do nothing about social media. Those companies donate to their campaigns. Moving against them would cut off the gravy train. These GOPe types are just in it for themselves as long as the big donor money flows. They only exist, and continue to exist, because rich individuals and rich companies just give them money to stay off their backs and parrot their talking points.
Seeing how many of them reacted to Big Floyd and the rioting leaves me no doubt that they had marching orders from their donors. And how they lack any backbone now, how they don't put up any fight against anything -I guess they don't want to loose the gravy train. We know there are lobbyists trying to buy influence, but paying people to shut up and betray their constituency is a whole other set of bullshit.

The damage from that doesn't go away all at once, and despite that controlled opposition and every effort against it, we still have a SCOTUS who can and does go Right more than not now. Things like this take time to change, and require acknowledging and supporting that change.
As to your OpSec notes, yes it is useful to have counterintelligence operations, but the problem is what you were suggesting was an active offensive use of it which will inevitably, as in 100% of the time, lead to it being turned inwards.

The thing is, China wouldn't care. They don't want Taiwan for its actual material value. The only thing that stops them from nuking it and standing atop the radioactive remains claiming they won is the fact that WOULD kick off WWIII as every nuclear power in existence, EVEN the U.S. as compromised as it is right now, immediately declares war.

I know they don't give a shit about Taiwan in terms of material or land but Taiwan going Chernobyl would cause a shitton of problems for them. They now have a large area they can't sail near, can't fly over, and is actively blowing radiation onto the mainland. It will never happen but if they wanted to make absolutely sure that the chinks don't fuck with them thats a pretty good option in my book.

I'm sure you are smarter than I am in terms of this kinda stuff but I disagree. I don't think a country can actively survive a country going Chernobyl right on their doorstep. They may not care but Chernobyl was only as contained of a fuckup as it was due to the soviets sacrificing thousands to do so and stop the radiation from fucking up alot of Europe. How are the chinks going to stop it happening on an island right next to them? They can't exactly fly in since the radiation tends to cause issues with planes, they can't use boats since it also causes problems for sailing. It's kinda retarded of me to defend something that no country would ever do but it surely would cause the chinks alot of problems.
