This is also why a lot of arguments will usually devolve into "what about 6 year olds that get raped and pregnant" strawman. It's still going to be expensive, both in terms of manpower and actual money. So if China wants to play with that ball, they can be my guest.

It's not going to cost 3 trillion, the value of the raw materials there. China will steamroll the country and mine every dime worth of minerals. They arent going to give the tiniest fuck about international condemnation or human cost.
There's absolutely no other option for China other than to do this now. Component shortages have severely damaged their manufacturing industry, they not only need to value of the raw materials, they need the materials to be on the market. Without this they cant afford to keep importing food and they starve.
