stupid frog explained it was a meme but it's worth pointing out it's also because (especially mtf) troons love to infantilize themselves. The language they use (often childish slang like "tiddy" or "top/bottom surgery" or "stuffie") and the way they present themselves online (cute, often small and unintimidating anime girls uwu) insidiously obfuscates that these are grown ass men talking casually about mutilating their genitals and cooming. To quote another post:
