I remember there was a murderer in a California prison who, against his will, got transferred to a lower security setting. He was in a dorm like environment with a number of other prisoners, one of whom was a child molester who infuriated him by watching PBS Kids. The murderer beat the child molester with another inmate's cane causing fatal injuries. Then he similarly beat a child trafficker as well, and then informed a guard what he had done because the guards hadn't noticed yet. One victim died that day and the other took three days to die. Then he wrote a letter to the local paper explaining the incident because he was put in segregated housing and wasn't allowed to use the phone anymore.

Virginian here. I may be wrong, but I believe being held without bond initially is pretty standard in Virginia until bail is set by the judge at arraignment.

If this was a sort of intervention style thing with somebody went to Chris’s house to try and make him learn boundaries it would be impossible when he’s in his own realm.

They generally don't do it to people in jail waiting for trial. You are still presumed innocent, so the state is supposed to make only the minimum intervention deemed necessary for the safety of victims and the community. Jail, pre-conviction, is not supposed to be punishment since there's ostensibly nothing to punish you for.
