The Final Fantasy Thread

I never got the idea that he thought he *was* Zack specifically, I thought he was more pretending to be the cool emotionless SOLDIER he believed he was.
Same. It's basically an adolescent Cloud's idea of cool, clearly. With a strange incidental and forgotten connection to another character.

The current rumor is that the Remake is coming to Epic Games with the DLC. Why would anyone get a PS5 at this point for an inferior version? Especially now that Sony is downgrading the heat sinks to make more of a profit on an already profitable system?

Can someone fill me in on where or why this "Cloud thinks he is Zack" business is from? Did Square confirm this and I just never noticed? I'm never given hard evidence, not even highly suggestive evidence, I just get told how the story would function if it were true. Really feels like people conflate thinking it would be cool for Zack and whether it's accurate or a good idea.
You kidding me? Cloud flat out says that he based his lie about being in SOLDIER on the experiences Zack told him about. Supplemented by his own experiences.

Edit:
I wasn't clear. I am aware he borrowed Zack's experiences and stories that he was privy to but some believe he literally believes he is Zack or commandeered by Zack's psyche and emotions. Ergo he does things like have affection for Aerith because of that Zackifying.
Oh, no, that's just a bunch of fan bs. Any affection for Aerith is due to her just being her.

And maybe thinking he wasn't good enough for Tifa.

always wanted to try those. Let us know how it goes.
Well it looks great and everything is animated at 60 fps too, but unfortunately the Steam version seems to be the original 1998 PC release which has very janky controller support. Some of the buttons on my XSX controller aren't recognized at all.

Finally getting my FF4 fix, and I have to say that the soundtracks in these remasters have been excellent. I don't even sperg over video game music that much, but one of the things I always liked about FF4 is that it was the first game that had music that really drew me into the game further.

I'm glad they brought Uematsu back because this is the first time that the FF4 theme was ever done proper justice in a remix.

edit: I can't into Kiwifarms, but it's the FF4 main theme.

God I hope the difficulty isn't the retarded US SNES version. Also one of the achievements is the god damn pink tail.

Final Fantasy III and IV 3D now have PSVita ports, here's a video of someone playing IV. Jump to 38:50 if you wanna see a crash at the end of the first dungeon, lol:

They're by the same guy who ported the Android versions of GTA games to the Vita, and it's the same kinda deal with these. Seems kinda pointless since III 3D got an official release on PSP, and 4's best version overall is a PSP exclusive, but, there they are.

Does anyone know if IV's pixel remaster on Steam has multiplayer like the snes version? I want an excuse to cajole my younger sister into playing with me, and I don't want to deal with the SNES's awkward translation and cut out features.

They seem to have made some tweaks to the difficulty. They seem to have bumped up the exp that you get, I beat the game in 15 hours and was level 65, usually I'm around 55 or so. They also seem to have you learn spells at earlier levels.

Trap doors don't do instant kills anymore and there is a vendor near the save point in the Giant of Babel. Apparently they're also adding another way to get Sirens.

update: it doesn't. How does a version released over 20 years later end up with less content than the original?

The best part about the original FFIV was the fact that characters came and went from the story. While allowing party swaps increases replay value, it does so at the expense of diminishing the story.

I'm glad there's a faithful remaster of the original, and wish it released on Switch because I'll be damned if I'm playing an 80 hour game on a phone.

They could have just made you do the canon game first and then let you do the Lunar Ruins stuff on New Game + or something.

The Lunar Ruins are actually pretty damn good

Playing through IV a bit more, yeah. Its based off of the easy version. Its been a long while since Ive played it, but Ive played it twice. I started wondering if they reduced the difficulty when I beat Mom Bomb with zero issues, and realized exactly what version this was when I wiped the floor with Calcabrina, another common brick wall with my playthroughs.

I hated this personally, but I played FF6(FF3 US) on the SNES first so that's probably why since they handled that a little better. Just as I was getting attached to a character they'd fuck off and I'd be upset, and some characters never came back. I respect that they did it, but I didn't like it overall.

Speaking of Final Fantasy IV, I played a couple of hours into The After Years and then got bored and read ahead a bit and it made me laugh how they took the opportunity to redesign Porom to be sexy now that she's 22, but they mostly left Palom alone. On the left is Palom in TAY, at age 22; on the right is Edward in FF4, age 24:

When Palom goes to buy booze in America, I'm sure he gets shocked looks every time he shows his ID.

Porom now looks nothing like Palom (despite being twins), but rather, a new character altogether:

I'll bet whomever designed her got bonked on the noggin and sent straight to horny jail

So yeah, The After Years isn't getting a pixel remaster, and the PSP version still remains the best one with it looking all good and having the, indeed, very very good Lunar Ruins and that one extra place on Mt. Ordeals, and even that one scene where they explain how exactly Cecil takes a shit while wearing his suit of armor. (It's an assflap and Kain has a smaller assflap and gets jealous)
