The Final Fantasy Thread

This game however is gonna be sick though! Hugely excited for it. I hope it wins game of the year in 2022

At least 3, 1 and 2 are slightly harder than the gba versions and have no extra content, the ost is good, 1 brought back spell charges and 2 has a higher encounter rate (grrr). But mods can fix that shit. 3 PR is the best version so far with the balance fixes of the 3d version while being faithful to the nes version aside from the bugs/bullshit mechanics.
3D version was boring as crap. The After Years i thought was fun. But i cant imagine what kind of boring person wants to sit down, play FF3 and FF4 3D remake and not be bored with it.

But i do agree that Pixel remaster of FF1-FF3 is good (Still wish you could have the option of removing the auto battle icon though). But its cool. It may be nerfed on difficulty, but its fun and thats what matters. Maybe in the future they may add DLC for original graphics, OST and difficulty just to kinda give that original experience

I'm a gay fag that triple posts.
Seriously man, do you not know about the quote feature?

Can someone even tell me why we even need these weird pixel remasters for 4-6? If you aren't adding content and are just making the spritework worse (and oh god that fucking font) Why not do what Sega did and just throw the GBA games on an emulator and just call it a day? The only good thing to come out of these games is the arranged OST

Well FF4-FF6 is already ported to consoles on PS1 and such, so really no need if you got a PS1. But FF3 was never ported outside Japan, except the godawful 3D remake. But now it is here. So its fixed.

Even if its nerfed somewhat of famicom. Point is its fun

I wasn't a fan of the 3D remakes either. I never liked that style that all the DS rpgs had, and FF4 really didn't need voice acting. They're also very sluggish, and one thing I really like about the 2D games is that everything moves at a brisk pace.

I also didn't like the OSTs either, they sounded too video gamey which was never an issue when Uematsu was handling things. I think that's why these pixel remaster OSTs sound so good.

Huh. It's probably some sort of Mandela-effect, but I could of sworn I've seen it for the US SNES.

Granted, I'm probably mixing things up.
None of the SNES era Dragon Quest/Warrior games ever got a stateside release during in the US, until the mid-00s

It wasn't until the Square/Enix merger (which thanks to FF the Spirit Within flopping and nearly killing Square, ended up going the opposite direction and allowing Enix to basically retain full autonomy as opposed to simply being bought up and everyone fired/Enix reduced to just the intellectual property that Square doesn't give a shit about and just wanted bought to permanently shelf so it could no longer threaten Final Fantasy's total control over the Japanese RPG market) that the SNES games got updated/released onto the US market as far as Enix using the merger and their position of power they garnered bailing Square out via the merger, to make Square commit to making a major push for Draqon Quest in the US.

11 finally tipped the scales so much that North America bought more copies of Dragon Quest than Japan did.

Sanic plz.

The only problem I had with the 3D remakes was that the graphics didn't age well. Sprites look a lot better.
The game is more interesting and faster. 3D remake is boring and slow, that was the problem. But sprites would be better if they made them look like adults... atleast FF4-FF6. But for some reason Square wanted bigger eyes rather than this. Which you only see in FF1. It didnt get fixed til FF7 came out.

Saying sprites is better... is kinda of being generous. Zelda A Link to the Past on SNES, now thats what i call good direction. Right proportions on you and enemy basically. Where in FF4-FF6 you literally have "Toddler looking Cecil vs soldiers that are drawn in right proportion" not exactly fitting. And even more ridiculous in FF6 (which is a bad game to begin with) but yeah

FF3 NES became a "lost" game for ages., because of two reasons:

1. The NES version of FF3 was designed to push the NES to it's limits software-wise, and would take a LOT of time and money to upgrade it ala FF 1 and 2;

2. Besides the software issues, translating the two jobs FF games (3 and 5) would take additional time, money, and resources translating from Japan to English, especially since both games due to the job system, have about double the text that FF 1-2/4/6 had.

The only reason FF5 got translated/released in the US as part of the first FF Anthology set, was due to the fact that FF5 had developed a huge reputation as a "lost classic" and "the best of the SNES era games" by EGM Magazine. But Anthology sold badly, hence why it took ages for the second compilation (FF1-2) to get released and why they had to put Chrono Trigger in with FF4 when it finally got released on the PS

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. "This probably won't sell. Let's spend as little money on it as we can. See? It sold poorly."

It's due to the quality of the port, not the hardware. You can't even open a menu without glacial load times.

Can someone fill me in on where or why this "Cloud thinks he is Zack" business is from? Did Square confirm this and I just never noticed? I'm never given hard evidence, not even highly suggestive evidence, I just get told how the story would function if it were true. Really feels like people conflate thinking it would be cool for Zack and whether it's accurate or a good idea.

IIRC it comes from implanted memories from the solider stuff.

I wasn't clear. I am aware he borrowed Zack's experiences and stories that he was privy to but some believe he literally believes he is Zack or commandeered by Zack's psyche and emotions. Ergo he does things like have affection for Aerith because of that Zackifying.
It just sounds like people took what you describe, which is described in the game as well, to an extreme because they didn't understand it or something. But it really is clung to.
