go home spoonyRemember when Origin tried porting Ultima 7 to SNES? That's what Square was faced with. The fact that SoM turned out so well is a miracle.

If you want to upskirt Tifa, choose the mature dress. If you want to look at her mommy milkers choose the sporty dress. If you choose the premium treatment at Madam M Cloud will presumably be jacked off by Madam M.Managed to order a PS5 and a copy of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, is there anything I should know before going in?
Yes, I know the game takes... "liberties" with its story compared to the original, but I want to know how the gameplay differs to the original beyond the obvious combat change (I finished it on the Switch a couple of months back, and quite enjoyed most of it).
Except Square was already chafing at the technical limitations of the SNES while making Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. Final Fantasy VII was essentially driven by half a decade of pent up ambition. And, let’s be honest, even though the graphics are very archaic and not especially attractive these days, the game would have not become the phenomenon that it did if it was another sprite based RPG.Or maybe they would have made another 2D game, which I would have welcomed.
It’s all the prerendered backgrounds that make me think it wouldn’t work. N64 had hardly any texture memory, so wouldn't the backgrounds have to be rendered in-game? Since like, most of Final Fantasy VII's environments boiled down to Cloud running around in a void on top of a background, with a very carefully placed camera angle so it actually looks like he's running around in them.FF7 on N64 would have turned out alright. It wasn't some powerhouse game on PS1 either aside from the FMVs, which were the main factor in the space issue. It also used MIDI for music, so that wouldn't have been an issue either.
It probably would have benefitted from the additional horsepower, and the lack of load times would have been a huge blessing considering all the random battles. Or maybe they would have made another 2D game, which I would have welcomed.
Resident Evil 2 also mostly consists of prerendered backgrounds, and they were able to compress it to fix on an admittedly gigantic N64 cartridge, but most people would describe that port as compromised. Years after FF7 was released, Square employees who worked on the game would express astonishment over how Nintendo was able to make stuff like Ocarina of Time on the system since they struggled so mightily with the development kit before moving over to Sony. It’s all the prerendered backgrounds that make me think it wouldn’t work. There'd be so many environments they'd have to recreate around the N64's limitations that it'd practically be like remaking the whole game.
Oh yeah, Modern Vintage Gamer put up a video about how they did the FMVs in RE2 N64 a year ago. They had to move Heaven and Earth to get those working.Resident Evil 2 also mostly consists of prerendered backgrounds, and they were able to compress it to fix on an admittedly gigantic N64 cartridge, but most people would describe that port as compromised. Played Final Fantasy X Remastered, i'm easily loving it, especially the characters.
Are Lulu's boobs more detailed?Played Final Fantasy X Remastered, haven't finished it yet but i'm easily loving it, especially the characters. Absolute mans game if i do say so myself.

Wait, Origin seriously expected to compete with Zelda or Square's RPGs on the SNES? Oh come on! Only computer geeks played Ultima. Those who played on consoles sticked to Zelda or Final Fantasy for RPGs.Legends is closer, at least aesthetically, to the cancelled CD-ROM.

There was one point in time where this was the most graphically impressive game I had ever seen
Lets also not forget the clashing egos between both Nintendo and Square.Except Square was already chafing at the technical limitations of the SNES while making Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. "No fair you're touching me" business model.Lets also not forget the clashing egos between both Nintendo and Square.
That quote from Yamauchi about RPGs was pure cope, especially since a few years later Pokemon blew up.Nothing surprises me anymore. Japanese devs are the most inflexible I've come across.
In the SNES era Dragon Quest was Japan only.Don't forget Dragon Quest
Huh. It's probably some sort of Mandela-effect, but I could of sworn I've seen it for the US SNES.In the SNES era Dragon Quest was Japan only.
Perhaps you saw an import from Japan. Or maybe some talks about it being released on the SNES.Huh. It's probably some sort of Mandela-effect, but I could of sworn I've seen it for the US SNES.
Granted, I'm probably mixing things up.
