I'm giving FF12 (The Steam Version) another chance, mostly because I heard that they finally did what they should have just done from from the beginning, and let you change your job boards. Something almost every other job based version of Final Fantasy has let you do from the beginning, including Tactics. (This is supposed to be in the same world as FF tactics, right? Speaking of tactics, like most people who played it, I actually loved Tactics; Why the fuck did the dude who designed the job version of FF12 originally pat himself on the back for *not* letting you change jobs? What a fucking faggot.)
Anyway, I got pretty far into FF12 the last time I tried, but I decided to start fresh this time because I had no fucking clue what was even going on when I tried to continue my old save file. (That's partially my fault... but it's been a while, and I wanted to be fair. Especially since you couldn't change your job boards last time I tried to play this game on Steam, and that was one of my biggest complaints about it.)
Long story short- after a few hours playing FF12 again, I'm going to say what many more before me have already said @_@ : Vaan is not the main character of this story. That isn't the end of the world though, it kind of reminds me of FF6. Just because you start as one character, doesn't necessarily make them the main character of the entire story. (Even though everybody likes to say she is now, especially after Dissidia, Terra is *not* the main character of FF6. You literally don't even need to get her back in your party to finish the game. Celes, and to a *significantly* lesser extent, Locke, both have more of a claim to being the main character, especially by the World of Ruin. Hell, I'd even put Edgar above Terra for main character status.)
Balthier is clearly the *actual* main character of FF12. And to a slightly lesser extent, so is Ashe. Shit, so is Basch. That is literally half of the main cast who have a greater claim at being the main character than the supposed main character... I find this hilarious, but you know what, I'm still actually enjoying FF12 a hell of a lot more now that I can actually switch jobs.
