The Final Fantasy Thread

They should leave the music alone, though, because I think it's the hardest the SNES sound chip ever rocked out:
You know damn well that they wouldn't leave it alone in this day and age. I'd be happy if it was on an optional toggle, though, kind of like how the remake of Ninja Warriors handled it a year or so back.

So is the gameplay any good? I don't really give a shit about some 'so cringe its lovely' story if it is the only thing worth enjoying out of it. I'd rather just watch all the cutscences on YouTube.

I'm giving FF12 (The Steam Version) another chance, mostly because I heard that they finally did what they should have just done from from the beginning, and let you change your job boards. Something almost every other job based version of Final Fantasy has let you do from the beginning, including Tactics. (This is supposed to be in the same world as FF tactics, right? Speaking of tactics, like most people who played it, I actually loved Tactics; Why the fuck did the dude who designed the job version of FF12 originally pat himself on the back for *not* letting you change jobs? What a fucking faggot.)

Anyway, I got pretty far into FF12 the last time I tried, but I decided to start fresh this time because I had no fucking clue what was even going on when I tried to continue my old save file. (That's partially my fault... but it's been a while, and I wanted to be fair. Especially since you couldn't change your job boards last time I tried to play this game on Steam, and that was one of my biggest complaints about it.)

Long story short- after a few hours playing FF12 again, I'm going to say what many more before me have already said @_@ : Vaan is not the main character of this story. That isn't the end of the world though, it kind of reminds me of FF6. Just because you start as one character, doesn't necessarily make them the main character of the entire story. (Even though everybody likes to say she is now, especially after Dissidia, Terra is *not* the main character of FF6. You literally don't even need to get her back in your party to finish the game. Celes, and to a *significantly* lesser extent, Locke, both have more of a claim to being the main character, especially by the World of Ruin. Hell, I'd even put Edgar above Terra for main character status.)

Balthier is clearly the *actual* main character of FF12. And to a slightly lesser extent, so is Ashe. Shit, so is Basch. That is literally half of the main cast who have a greater claim at being the main character than the supposed main character... I find this hilarious, but you know what, I'm still actually enjoying FF12 a hell of a lot more now that I can actually switch jobs.

Basch as main character because: he otherwise has nothing to do and he’s enough of a fish out of water (commoner origin knight who has been away for years) that he can still receive exposition.

That is literally as correct as what I just said.

I am team Basch MC solely so I was just adding why he should be MC and not Vaan or hypothetically Balthier
I literally just said that Basch was still a more valid main character than Vaan was.
It's true, I still personally prefer Balthier... But, I've got nothing against Basch.

In a better FF, Basch could have easily been the 'leading man' (If Balthier wasn't). Especially considering his backstory. I definitely still like the guy.

Back when Matsuno was on board, his original version had it that you could learn every skill. He left Square during development and they released International Version (oddly enough, it did not have a International release) which locks you into a specific job because one of the designers thought you shouldn't max out everything.

Never said you were dissing Basch. You just think adding my two cents is equivalent to that for some reason.
