They announced that most of Evergrande's remaining capital will be used to finish construction work on its newer properties because it is now hopelessly unable to pay off its debt obligations. The government is preparing for a massive debt restructuring, which should be closely observed since there are almost no examples in the PRC's history of a company as big as Evergrande not being bailed out. Investors are almost certainly going to be left to dry, Guangdong's provincial officials have already refused at least one request to bail out the company from its CEO.

This AUKUS idea is great and all, but any security alliance in the Pacific that doesn't include Japan, South Korea, and, ideally, the Philippines seems pretty toothless. This does not reflect too well on Virginia's governor's race. A closer race would bolster Republican turnout; we may get a streak of defeatist impulses that made 2021 Georgia happen.

In any case, it was good the recall got this far. Incremental victories are worthwhile if you learn the right lessons from them. Perhaps a dissection from a better political mind than myself is in order.
