This was gold-tier.
The "hardcore gaming season" is something Phil treats as this big thing every year, but if you take a step back and look at what it is you realise there is nothing there.
Phil's usual strategy is just to rely on day one views. It used to work when he was one of the first to get videos out for a game, before the YouTube sphere got big. Once other YouTubers started getting games early he fell behind in the game of getting the eyes of those unsure on whether to buy a game or not. Nowadays streamers and YouTube creators regularly get early access to games, making Phil's day one views strategy useless. He knows this, it's why he throws a tantrum whenever he sees people get games early.
Which is why I say there's nothing there with the "hgs". It's just him using the same, useless plan with literally no changes. What, objectively, is different between the"hgs" and his modus operandi? Fuck all. He just gets day one views while everyone else has gotten day 0 views, meaning anyone who would watch videos on any of the games already have watched what they need and have no reason to go to him.
The only exception are his wheelchair brigade and they'd watch his shite anyway, meaning he gets nothing new out of it. It only ever had any meaning to him, meaning that died years ago and he still hasn't realised it.
You answered your own confusion. He wants to play the scrubby people to satiate his ego. If he got on Fightcade, he would have fewer excuses (not that he wouldn't use the same ones), and he would face actual good competition. He would get rolled constantly.Little off topic but it absolutely blows my mind that he doesn't use Fightcade. I play Third Strike on there from time to time and the Super Turbo section has around 300-500 players every time I check. Infinitely more than the shit console version he plays where it's the same 5-10 people all night and nobody actually knows how to play. It's not like he can even get trolled because you have to accept requests from other people so if they have a "detractor" name just decline and find someone else to play.
He knows he'd get wiped the floor with if he did. He needs to keep his pro gamer ego so he sticks to the less played version so he can pretend to be good against nobodies.Little off topic but it absolutely blows my mind that he doesn't use Fightcade. Cause there are acutally good players on there and his ego can't take the hit of getting his ass beat in his supposed pro "Nr1 American" Street Fighter game.Little off topic but it absolutely blows my mind that he doesn't use Fightcade. The timing of it has remained largely the same (autumn) as it does see more big name releases than any other time. However it never really had an effect on Phil's viewership as he just never took advantage of what he saw as a big event.I'm going to be totally ahnest, I never seriously thought the HGS was "real" in any significant sense. There may be more games released here or there throughout the year, but it never seemed to correlate with when Phil said it was or how it might affect his popularity/success, especially because of his weird autism about barreling through games, ignoring anything of value, just to say he finished it—to say nothing of how he designs his schedule to jump from game to game randomly in various states of completion. Nowadays he cares even less about video games, and I haven't seen him demonstrate any authentic excitement about any of the games that show up in the HGS.
I always just figured it was part of his grift, like "I just need extra support until the HGS and then everything will be fine again".
Uh.... NO!Phil isn't the worst SF player, but his knowledge on the meta gameplay has eroded like a stone under niagra falls. He thinks the only meta or tournament style gameplay is footsy and only safe moves. That's completely false. He's just not an aggressive player anymore (if he ever was) so he gets curbstomped in pub lobbies by aggressive players. That's where most of the salt on fridays comes from.
What else is there for a couple as boring as those two to do? They have no culture, no refinement, nothing. It's either "stay at home and play video games" or "go out to eat".I've never heard of anyone going out twice in one day for sit down food twice. He said they go out to bfast and sit down then go out to dinner to sit down.
The first movie came out when he was like 18..."...Harry Potter. I've seen the movies but I haven't heard the books." - DSP, 2021
