While they could definitely shoot closer to the ranch & have berms or banks naturally available, it looks like they drive a couple miles to the state land across Hwy 69. There's probably close to 20 miles of nothing beyond that going west. The only reason I can think of is because they use range trips as a show of force; rolling past the neighbors & House of Earl like hajis in a Hilux.

I think I've seen them show off paper targets maybe twice, so they probably just use bottles/cans/junk.

I had a friend who was in the marines in the 80s/90s. He told me a story of walking back from the rifle range one day with his friend, and suddenly his buddy goes sprawling on the dirt. One of the rounds from the .50 cal range had gone way off target, hit the ground and tumbled into his friend hard enough to knock him forward a foot or two. There was an invesigation, and they determined that if the bullet hadn't hit the ground, his friend probably would have died.

They were about a mile and a half from where the shot was fired.

Like, I figure that's not enough reason for the parents to like, pull out their own (hypothetical) guns and shoot Bonnie. But can Bonnie just go to their property, likely acting like a hired goon with a gun on his hip and his hand probably sitting on it, and, they just have to stand there and take it? Although I do not live there, I have friends who do, and my understanding is that Colorado is not a retreat jurisdiction, and that it has some version of the Castle Doctrine.

If Bonnie had entered their home without invention, he would have been there unlawfully, and, if he had refused to leave, they would, to my understanding, have been legally clear to use any degree of force if they felt threatened.
