Wish people would realize women feel the same about straight porn, our entire existences being turned into just a braindead fuckdoll. I think yaoi is less harmful since it's mostly fictional fake people and only like teenage girls/people with 0 social awareness think real gay men are "just like yaoi omg" but porn-brained men more often see real life breathing human woman as just the same as their pornified fantasies. This always sounds like a regurgitated take from people who think yaoi is just the girl equivalent to moid gooner porn.

and now, if you don't mind me sperging out, I've thought about the psycho-social reasons behind why yaoi is so common, and think it's kinda escapism for women to express their sexual feelings without having to project onto a female character since 90% of the time in porn or even romance media they have no agency and in relationships they're only an object to be claimed (or a stereotypical caricature for some man's fetish). Male characters are more often actually allowed to have depth and humanity, so projecting onto a male character feels easier since it's more divorced from the current stereotypes women have to live with, there's no "i'm not as pretty as her he wouldn't choose me" "He's only choosing her because she's an available hot female", it would feel like actually being chosen for who you are without the baggage of being female in society. most yaoi manga (that I've read) focuses way more heavily on the romance aspect than just being porn (there'll be like 1 sex scene and then 50 chapters of talking abt their feelings). Idk if it's different for like western yaoi fanfic and shi i don't read that there might be more goonery

I think "yaoi is homophobic fetishism" only serves to make more girls who engage in it for the reasons stated above just poon out cuz then they get an excuse to not get hated on. particularly the young ones, more teenage girls are into yaoi since then it's very difficult to feel like you fit the "female role" since it's just made up stereotypes that get enforced on you at that age, so it's pretty easy if you hate/don't fit these gender roles to not want to have to have on your "girl costume" even in your fantasies.

A lot of the yaoiz is straight up vile. Take a peek at the fanfic horrors thread. The whimsical puppy crush type shit is just surface level. There are horrors beyond comprehension in there.

Also you can't be someone who complains about how objectification is wrong but hand wave rpf and the weird shipping culture around celebrities. A lot of pooners will admit to "realizing" they were pooners through their fanfic/art/manga obsession. It's really no different from the porn to hon pipeline, just a different coat of paint.

Frankly I think its a silly comparison anyway, given that it would be more apt to compare mens pornhub usage, to womens Ao3 usage. Some absolutely reprehensible and vile things are on that site. Especially the pooner written stuff is a cross between extremly strange and utterly rancid.
