It's a one ton- 2000 lb.- statue. Not exactly something you can tuck into your pocket & walk away with.

You are correct, but I wouldn't doubt that people would attempt to go in and destroy it or as you say spray paint it.

My favorite part about all this is that Baphomet was originally a pagan fertility god with no connection to Satan until the Church stepped in and went "how can we make people want to convert?"
So both sides are freaking out over some goat-woman who just wants people to have more babies.

In regards to the verse, its only significance is basically saying Jesus saves which means anyone can join if they really believe in it. As for American Christians, some probably think the world is literally against them. While you do have the likes of ISIS persecuting Iraqi Christians (as well as others that are non-Christians) or some euphoric atheist thinking every single christian must be a science hating homophobe that doesn't believe in evolution, that doesn't really mean the world is trying to literally kill all Christians, especially since the world itself has things trying to kill each other.

I'm not religious by any means so if a new temple wants to open up, then that's fine. What I do know is the city is religious. I'm sure no one is going to get hurt, but I'm sure there is going to be plenty of controversy and a lot of upset churches.
As for it helping the city itself...it probably won't help all too much. The city pushed for a new hockey arena and if I recall it got approved. It will be a new arena along with a whole new shopping district. It's one step closer to having a city that people aren't too terrified of.
