At least 18 are dead after a series of explosions and shootings. There have been at least 4 separate, but coordinated incidents.

CNN live stream:

CNN also just announced that there are also 60 hostages being held in a theater.

Update: More than 128 dead. We got a new rating. Basically, everything went fucky.

Attacking Rome would probably result in a country-wide muslim hunt brought on by the civilians.
Which is exactly the kind of thing ISIS would want. By striking so close to the Vatican, they can drum up more anti-Muslim sentiment across the world which will drive said Muslims right into their waiting arms. Despite claiming to be fighting for all muslims, they thrive off of the xenophobia and racism their attacks generate. But an attack of this scale? This is going to change the whole game and it will be most interesting to see how France responds.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing them bring back the guillotine. But then again, I never was one to take a measured or reasonable approach to sensitive matters.

By reintroducing the death penalty, France would only be declaring defeat.

"You hit us hard and it hurted us so much we reverted to beheading people out of fear."

One of ISIS' goals is indeed make Europe go back to before the ECSC: a continent divided by fear who squabbles about borders, reverts its laws to decades ago (more than a century ago in our case) and generally cannot muster a united military response.

I'm going to flat out say it: I fucking hate Islam. Loathe it. It's a shit awful thing and any idiot bleating, "Oh, it's a wonderful peaceful religion, absolutely! Pay no attention to the bits in the Koran about the murder and the paedophilia and the rape and the slavery and the viscous slaughter of infidels and the torture of any man who refuses to sign up and the equating women with animals and the etc and so forth! Muhammed was absolutely a nice person, and not a schizophrenic murderous cult leader!"

But even with all that, the way that the vague wisps of genocide are starting to gather together, is something terrifying indeed. I know, it comes across as massively over reacting, but if all this shit keeps on keeping on, lone Muslims quietly disappearing in rural European villages with no one noticing is going to become A Thing.

Then why post if you think you are? If you recognize that you need to shield your postings like this, don't you think it would be more appropriate to rewrite it into a calm and collected response instead? If you want to vent, there are places on this forum to vent or plan a genocide in, but this thread isn't for debating the merits of Islam or delivering juggalo justice to those who you think are tangentially responsible, it's about this specific event.

I'm very sorry, but I don't think I worded that properly. I meant that while many would view me as over reacting when I start talking about the possibility of genocide against minority Muslims if the current anti Islamic climate intensifies, I seriously believe that it's heading in that direction. And that is frightening. Even if I do loathe the religion, that shit's even worse than terrorism or fundamentalism.

I must agree, and I hope other people realise how important the distinction between hating Islam and hating Muslims is. I find it completely reasonable to hate a system which makes men, women and even children willing to throw their lives away for the mere chance of taking a few kuffar down with them. Hating Muslims is, while understandable given the circumstances, terribly misguided and counterproductive to the end goal of peace.

Definitely. I lived amongst Muslims for two years, and I work with a lot of them too, and they are lovely, polite people with some wicked senses of humour (particularly regarding terrorism related topics). The problem is the religion for not adapting to the 21st Century, not the people.

Violence from SJWs doesn't worry me. It's their cowardice and intentional ignorance that need to be watched out for.

This and their use of social networks and social manipulation thrust lying, false flags, etc. They can cause real, tangible harm to people's lives, they're just pussies so they won't do anything physical.

They're more likely to go for another European capital first in my opinion. My guess would be Rome or London.
I'm desperately hoping it's not London, but with the Muslim percentage of the population being higher here than in Italy, and our reputation for disaffected youths going to Syria, it seems a much more likely target than Rome.

To be fair, after the attack at the concert in Paris, and Oldham being just a tram ride away, I can see the next target in the UK being Manchester. Specifically, during the Stone Roses concerts in June.

They may even go after some place less guarded and less involved, such as Stockholm. With the rise of parties such as Sverigedemokraterna, adding fuel to their fire would help the terrorist cause of getting Europe to turn on itself and to go after Muslims.

Edit: I should add that there are other very important targets out there that people, especially us overseas, forget about. London is probably next, but now the UK is expecting something like that to happen. Nothing like a feint, right?

Also, IS are Muslim. They honour Muslim rules regarding the treatment of non-Muslims, so they wouldn't be this brutal.
This would be the same IS who:
  • Beheaded Western journalists, aid workers, and children.
  • Plotted to blow up the Queen at the VE day celebrations.
  • Enslaved Yazidi women and used them as sex slaves.
  • Probably brought down a Russian tourist jet.
I think any question of them "honouring" rules went out the window a long time ago.

I have 2 takes on this:

1) Every religion needs martyrs. ISIS wants Europe to lose patience and start pogroms of muslims. The more dead muslims, the more money and recruits for ISIS. Nobody except Russia is willing to actually fight ISIS, because that would be admitting that maybe Assad wasn't wrong.

2) Some immigrant who blames France for war in Syria (half true) decided to blow (har har) his savings on fertilizer bombs just to kill few people out of spite. France will shift blame on ISIS just on case.

I figured ISIS would claim responsibility, because even if this wasn't them (and that's a slim possibility), it's up to their level.

And really, is a shit Swastika really more important to than the deaths of over a hundred people and the ongoing fear of what country might be next on the "kill list"?

To the people thinking the swastika of shit is more important, fuck you and everything you believe in. For the people who had to suffer the attacks. My heart goes out to them, and the families/friends of the deceased. It's a tough time, and I can only imagine things getting worse well before they show any signs of getting better.
