I feel like the logical conclusion for all of this, is for skyraider to start squatting in Chris' burnt up house.

Did someone say squatting?

I think the reason why the fire didn't originally stir any kind of change in Chris is that the more significant reprecussions of it were delayed. Now that it doesn't look like Branchland Court will be rebuilt in time, Chris will actually have to confront reality. There's no room for him to retreat into with his lego, there's no electricity for his video games and consoles and there is no more fantasies that he can indulge in while homeless. There's only Chris, a rock and a hard place. Guess where Chris is.

If Aunt Harriet has any sense at all, she'll change her locks and leave the lights off. You know that's where they'll try to move in next.

1. The multiple refrigerators have been moved.

If they're doing that, it's (a.) just totally random, insurance hazard, etc, but possibly (b.) to get heavy equipment close to the house.

2. As Varis said, the plywood on that window looks like it's been pulled off and the glass broken.

Edit: The angle doesn't help much but the roof is still bowing above Chris' room where the hole was and presumably still is.

Edit 2:

The obvious things are still there: same dumpster, window still boarded up on the wrong side etc

Unless I've missed one, all of the windows are still boarded on the outside except for Chris' room. That is also where the fire was, where the hole is and where the bowing of the roof is most pronounced. I wonder if the wood around there is too burned and unstable to even pound nails into? And they're using an adhesive on the inside? I don't know why else you would do that. Carrying plywood inside to that area would have been way more difficult/dangerous than standing on a ladder and doing it outside, and it would occur to exactly no one to do that on their own initiative.

One more edit, why not:

So many popcorn tubs...

Your tubophilia made me notice that most of that shit outside the greenhouse has been there since at least April. Start with the blue and yellow tub at the top and look down each side.

So nothing has happened..
Nature is slowly reclaiming the house. It's like those shows After Humanity or whatever where they show what would happen if humans were to disappear. It's accelerated in 14 B-Land's case because the hoard is natural compost material and also Chris had taken to defecating in the backyard in the months before the fire due to the commode not working anymore. The way those vines are crawling up the sides, and the plants in the greenhouse are making plans to join their friends on the outside, and Bob's clothes want to be in the ground with Patti's carcas...wow so spooky.

Please tell me you're just making a deriding remark about our unhealthy sponge Chris. Please...

This photo, man:

You see all this household shit -- couch cushions, blankets, many, many popcorn tins, a garbage can -- and right on top, a fucking fanfold of Dow Protection Board. Still fanfolded, which is to say unused. Protection board is for waterproofing stone or concrete -- important on any house but especially on a split-level like 14BC. But it's just sitting there with all of this household shit. You would never have this unless you were building some kind of house or doing some extensive repairs yourself. It's unused, but aged.

I wonder if Bob wasn't using that cluttered enclosed porch as his default "basement" to store shit like that. And then Barb began shoving her shit in there -- and if I recall, the kitchen was adjacent to it and that's where things really got fucked up. If this is from workmen clearing out a path through there, and that's all true... Gentlemen, we could be looking at the first cells of the the hoard in this picture. :story:

This board seems a little loose, and that looks like glass on the ground!
Most of the windows were probably broken by the firemen, and the glass is still on the ground because, well, you can see for yourself how well the cleanup has been going.
Sorry for not posting this earlier. I thought I lost it.
I can't say I didn't expect this, but I still facepalmed.
If Aunt Harriet has any sense at all, she'll change her locks and leave the lights off. You know that's where they'll try to move in next.
If she has any sense at all she'll sell her place, assume a new name, move to another state, and burn off her fingerprints. It's the only way to be sure.

That window was boarded up on the outside at one point. It probably actually was easier for a certain lazy manchild to nail it up on the inside while on one of his many, many treasure recovery visits. Ladders are expensive. Putting it on the inside isn't nearly as effective at keeping the weather out, but that's probably not something a manchild would consider, and probably won't make much difference in the long term anyway given the likely outcome for the structure.

The Chandlers are fucking up more than badly enough that we really don't need to make stuff up. I've had to show this board to a few people before they would believe what a colossal cock up 14BLC is.

Yeah, that's one of the things that has me completely baffled. Protection board is for keeping the waterproof membrane from getting punctured while back filling a foundation, but I don't see any signs of excavation around the perimeter anywhere. Nor would there really need to be unless there is a lot more seriously fucked with 14BLC than just the fire. While that's possible, I don't see the fire insurance claim covering it, and again, where's the excavation? Also that looks like the old kind from at least 10 years ago or more. Maybe it's left over from the remodel that was done in 1986, but I didn't think the work done then was that extensive.

I'm pretty certain they've recently been stripping the walls and floor out of the kitchen (at least), so you may be right that it is from that strange four season porch out the kitchen. From earlier pictures of the back of the greenhouse it's clear that that protection board wasn't there in April. Even though it's old, it's a fairly recent addition to that pile. Where did it come from? And what is it doing there? (And why hasn't it been tossed in the dumpster where it belongs along with the rest of that pile of Barbage?) That's probably all just more of the many Chandler Mysteries.

Naive about house reconstruction here, but if they started working on Julay Manor tomorrow, what would be the estimated time of completion, at least to make it basically habitable again?

Thx for your effort skyrider, we love you.

Chris thinks he's moving back in. I knew. I just... I wonder if Barb understands. Chris, of course not, but Barb?

Barb's mental and physical health are really really bad. Maybe she only wants to die in her old house with her garbage. I would be very surprised if she survives the next winter.
