Glover Returns To PC This April With "Completely Redone" Port

Piko Interactive is resurrecting a long-dormant mascot platformer we've not heard from in over two decades. Confirmed in Piko's Twitter account and a listing on Steam, everyone's favorite hand is back with the return of Glover.

Finally the wait is almost over. The #N64 Era Cult Classic Glover is coming soon! This version of #Glover is a completely redone from the original source code (N64 version of the game), and improved for modern PCs.

With a release date set for April 20 on PC, Piko's port of Glover is said to be "completely redone" using the Nintendo 64 version's source code. Complete with six worlds and 30 total stages, players will puzzle their way through Glover by changing the titular character's form and the properties of magic crystals disguised as rubber balls to navigate and clear each level.

Originally released in 1998 for Nintendo 64 and PC, with a PlayStation port a year later, Glover was a creation of the Oliver Twins, a duo of prolific British game design brothers who formed the now-defunct Interactive Games. Now, 24 years later, will this new version allow the glove to get the love some think it deserves? We'll know in just over a month.

I'm actually excited about this. I enjoyed this game back on the N64, and I played it a few months ago via emulator and feel that the game holds up well. It's not for everybody, but if you're willing to give it a go, you might enjoy it.

Piko also has the code for the unreleased Glover 2, and from what I understand it was around 80% finished, so there's a chance they could finish and relesase the sequel.

Edit: Fixed spelling error

Sounds like Null trying to say the word.
Fixed it. I'm on mobile right now (on break at work) so I didn't even catch it the first time.

Wonder why they used the n64 version code instead of the older PC version code.

Glover was pretty awesome though. It looks like this port fixed the draw distance issues anyway from what it looks like in the trailer.
They probably wanted to use the N64 version since it's the one most people who know about this game are familiar with.

The game has its faults, but like you said it's an awesome game and worth checking out for those who haven't played it.

I am glad they did not turn Glover into a condom to fit in line with Current Year ideals.
Sounds like a porn parody of the game that 4chan would make.

The N64 was likely the main development platform, with the PC version being derived from it.

They are using the N64 code probably because Console-to-PC ports from that era weren't good, with some of them being rather awful, Nightdive had the same problem when they remastered the Turok games.

Makes sense. I've never played the older PC port so I have no idea what it's like. I don't know anything about the actual porting process of turok games, but they did a pretty good job. I never knew there was an old PC port of turok.

Suddenly everyone played Glover and has the most fond memories of their favoritest game ever just like what happened with Klonoa the other month.

Glover was okay.
Everybody was like this when Earthbound and Earthbound Zero got ported too. I guarantee there weren't many people outside of the EB community who'd actually managed to play through EB entirely, let alone EB0.

I always thought of Glover as what Master Hand from SSB would've been if he was a mascot character. Glover isn't really my thing but it's nice to see another game I remember from my childhood getting the port treatment.

All I want is my boy Plok to get the port he deserves, though.

Pretty much, i always found kinda weird how in the last few years every game reviewer under the sun claimed that glover was an underrated masterpiece, i'll give a try when i find it on sale, but i'm not expecting much.

I'm not convinced most of the Earthbound community has played through the games to completion.

You know who needs to come back? You know who everyone needs to pretend they always loved and imported Famicoms so that they could play the game?

This shit right here is fun as fuck.

To be fair I was a kid when I first played it, so I was more easily impressed back then, but I have a lot of nostalgia for the game, so seeing it get re-released makes me glad. The game does hold up pretty well, so if someone wants to give it a go via emulator, I recomend it.

Now if only Gex could make a return.

Mai boi Glover!

To be honest, I don't recall the game being particularly smooth to play, but it wasn't awful either. Had a very unique gimmick and had pretty exceptional music.
One of the best things about the game was its soundtrack. It had some banger music.

Glover wasn't the best game out there but it wasn't awful either. I didn't exactly see this one coming though.
