2 The Ranting Gryphon / 2gryphon / Matthew Wayne Davis - Furry Fandom "Comedian" Whose Spotlight is Fading, leader of the "Anthro" fandom

I don't think "nazee fuwwies heck off uwu" sticker is enough to call event an ANTIFAcon and claim its spreading communist propaganda, so Gryphon 2 is starting shit exaggerating things in incredible ways regardless of whether that sticker was glued onto somebody's hotel room door or not.

It's not really ANTIFA con until somebody gets hit in the head with a bike lock.

weve been saying the same thing about mass shootings at furry cons but that hasn't happened yet either and there are way more mass shooting type spergs than antifa type spergs in the furry community, the antifa spergs are just usually louder

Because even most spergs understand that shooting someone = high likelihood of killing them = criminal charges (possibly with death penalty). That's enough to deter most people who have a personal vendetta, save for the extreme crazies.

Antifatards seem to think they're immune from consequences because 1) it's "just" swinging a bike lock/throwing a bottle/swinging a baton, what's the big deal, someone might just get a little gash, who cares, and 2) they deserved it, they were a "Nazi". They all assume that even in the event the fascist gestapo kkkops actually did blame them for attacking a "Nazi", that they'll still be supported and vindicated by the populace and history. They feel backed up by righteousness and social outrage as well as their personal REEEEEing.

The hurdle for bike chain attacks is thus a lot lower than the hurdle for a mass shooting.

Furry artists also tend to die young of diseases and disorders that they could have managed if they had medical insurance, like Doug Winger and COPD, Jim Hardiman and diabetes, Damn Evil Dog and kidney failure, etc.

This is true. Really, if you are going to be a furry artist one best follows Xianjaguar and Dustmeat model - have long suffering/over indulgent parents who never demand you get a real job and who take you back and pay your bills no matter how bad you fuck up.

Something tells me neither 2 not Groat ever were able to make that work for themselves, though.

Groat made it work until his wife divorced him and kicked him out.

The link leads to a page full of gibberish

Which is a pity since that convention was exceptional. The Anthrocon leadership seemed to put a lot of weight behind it, and it came out swinging with an all-star guest of honor roll and a good hotel lined up. Then they (probably) couldn't make their room block so they switched to a much smaller hotel mere weeks before the con. It got worse from there. 2 and Jibba were the front for it.

Antheria’s failure was very entertaining, yes. I’m curious to learn more about the Anthrocon team’s involvement and how much involvement there was; the idea that the “golden boys“ of Furry conventions screwed this up so badly is one that I very much want to true!

I don't have much proof, but a theory that fits the facts pretty precisely. Antheria occurred while the giant rift between the "East Coast"/AC conrunners and the West Coast people.

(A quick aside for those who don't know: a part of AC's reason for existing was the genuine depravity of Confurence (in LA), and Kage didn't like that. Later on, there was a silly slapfight involving stage time at Further Confusion for Kage, and then there was a serious chill between AC and the then-whole Pacific Timezone con scene.)

So, 2 moved from somewhere in the Midwest to LA, Confurence/Califur's backyard. And he and Kage were ultra-tight. So, this con was started. For a first-year con the hotel was very impressive - there were some rumors that was because words were put in for them by the AC crew. (Also this was kind of their downfall...) The GoH lineup was *intense*, including Stan Sakai, who at the time was the biggest 'score' AC ever had - and the guy who was the first major 'pro' outreach to get other industry people to not think AC was a bunch of freaks. The con also had this whole 'anthro evolved' thing going on, billing itself as a whole new level of refinement in conventioning - again, pride before the fall.

So you had AC people probably going to bat to jumpstart the con, you had them supplying a GoH corps that no first-year con would've been able to pull on their own merits, and you had a palpable attitude of 'we're doing this right', at a time when AC hated the California teams. The simplest explanation is that 2 wanted a vanity con and Kage et al were all too eager to go along to finally show up the land of Mark Merlino. Then, when it failed pretty embarrassingly, there was a sort of Detante with FC - Kage showed up to a solid 'meh' from the congoing public. At the minimum it was mutual self-interest. At the most? They were trying to expand the empire.

It's good to know that as Vivisector imploded my contributions to the Farms by way of nagging Null to create this board resulted in its spiritual successor.

I almost feel young again.

Must have forgotten to hit post reply when I wrote this up, the following content has been sitting in a draft for a few days now. Because of this, the screengrabs I had of the comment section expired and are no longer visible. Oops.

2Gryphon and Casey Hoerth had a chat about the looming collapse of the furry fandom, and other things like how inclusive AltFurry is. This video was posted on July 4th and yet nobody here even noticed or cared enough to post it. Not even these desperate lunges toward controversy/outrage clicks can save his dwindling popufur status. Rest in pieces, Matty.

Sponsored by @Dionysius himself. You scratch my back, I'll help you drum up $5 membership 'donations'. He shills for 'The Order of the Golden Talon' at 27:56. He never once mentions the fee nor the requirement that members be men age 21 and up. Casey shows up in the comment section a few times to talk shit on Goathole and his shitty new club to people interested in it. Would be interesting to see how 2 will deal with his sponsor being badmouthed like this, but enough people hate Dionysius that it might not matter to him.

Another highlight of the video is 2 claims that "I'm a libertarian left liberal half native american gay guy'.

I have no way to prove any of that, so I'll just leave it here for you to decide.

Perri Rhoades make an appearance and rants a little.

Very informative!

I do wonder just what ‘tight relationship between Kage and 2’ means; even before his current controversy 2 seemed little more than a lame novelty act. I do wonder if it’s a simple as 2 and Kage being yiff buddies.

I am puzzled about this idea that Confurence and/or FC was seen by the Kage gang as somehow more decadent than AC. AC booted Bad Dragon but I still hear tell they have an adult art show, plenty of porn to be had in the dealers den and artists alley, and etc - I’ve also heard tales of cringe and embarrassment for all involved when AC staff gives their GOH the full tour including.... for some reason..... the adult art show.

Did Sakai actually show up at Antheria?
