2020 Oscars Discussion - complain about how Uncut Gems nor the Lighthouse weren't nominated here

To be honest, I've never seen How Green Was My Valley while Citizen Kane is a movie I appreciate from a technical innovation standpoint but it's nowhere close to being my favourite classic movie.

I've only seen Dances with Wolves once and had trouble staying awake.

How Green Was My Valley is a family movie with some fantastic performances and cinematography, IMO. Citizen Kane is a great film, and I completely understand why it's so revered ... But is it among my favorites? No.

I think How Green Was My Valley winning Best Picture over Citizen Kane is considered as a "big snub" because of two reasons:

1. Well ... It's Citizen Kane. Fair enough, right?

2. The director of How Green Was My Valley, John Ford, is now maligned and hated in Hollywood. All because he was an extra on the original Birth of a Nation. lol. A lot of directors (Quentin Tarantino, most recently) have virtue signaled and have said things like "I refuse to praise a John Ford movie because he's raaaaacist."

Honestly, Joker getting so many nominations may be another good sign that SJW culture is on it's way out.

There was so much outrage over the movie and yet it didn't hold it down neither critically or financially.

There’s people online complaining about the fact that it doesn’t deserve Best Adapted Screenplay because of Joker’s character awkwardly trying to explain himself to Robert DeNiro why he hates society.

Nah.

Eddie Murphy isn't mocked as much as Sandler though. And plus Murphy had more goodies than Sandler.

I honestly don’t remember the last time Eddie Murphy was in a real good, memorable role.
Other than the Beverly Hills Cop series, Trading Places, Bowfinger and 48Hrs.

The irony of Quentin "my nigga" Tarantino saying that lol

One of the two movies I saw in person this year. Was great but everyone enjoyed the boomer who fell asleep part way through. His son was not impresessed but everyone loved those snores during the wall street boy train scene..

How about Quentin "Dead Nigger Storage" Tarantino?

Not that I think Tarantino hates black people or anything ... But it's really hard to take him seriously as someone with a moral high ground when he wrote a line like that in one of his films, lol.

That said, I love most of Tarantino's movies. I think he's a weirdo as a person, but I think he's a great filmmaker. Good movies are good movies, I'd say.

In regards to Star Wars getting nominated for shit ...

I'm sorry, I love John Williams ... But he does not deserve the nomination for Best Score. I've listened to it; to call the score for The Rise of Skywalker derivative would be putting it nicely. At best, the soundtrack is merely just a "Best of John Williams" album. Just like the film itself, there's nothing new in the score.

that is stupid
That's like saying you'll never watch a movie from United Artists because one of the 4 founders was DW Griffith, the guy who directed Birth of a Nation.

Like who gives a fuck.

The real reason they hate John Ford is because he made Westerns, worked with John Wayne and loved America. He also made the Socialist Lovefest "Grapes of Wrath" which you'd think would redeem him a little in Hollywood's eyes, but apparently his Original Sin of making Movies That Your Dad Loves was just too great to overcome.

John Ford also had enormous brass balls and filmed actual battles during WWII for the government. He was at Omaha Beach on D-Day and was wounded in the leg while filming the Battle of Midway. I'll respect Quentin Tarantino's opinions about John Ford's lack of moral character the day I see that ugly little fucker defusing roadside bombs in Afghanistan.

Little Women has picked up 6 nominations. Greta Gerwig is a good director, but Emma Watson is box office poison. She's the main reason the marketing never took off. A top notch cast giving fun Q and A's and Emma Watson with 1 to 1 interviews about why she's happy being single.

Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if Little Women isn't the compromise candidate, it's a good film with a female case that will allow the academy 1 year of not getting shit on for lack of diversity.

Doesn't Tarantino know that "logic" can used on him considering he has made films for Miramax and the Weinstein Company (the former being founded by the Weinstein brothers)? For all we know, he could have been aware of Harvey for years and looked the other way.

The movie was also shit compared to the 1994 movie. The story was told out of order, making emotional scenes feel hilariously empty. The only one in the cast who was exceptional was Florence Pugh, and I honestly think her nomination is more of a nod to Midsommar than anything else since the Academy has a bias against the horror genre.

I'd love HTTYD3 to get an Oscar. I know they won't, it will be Toy Story because Disney, but it would be nice. I thought HTTYD2 was a stronger movie, and definitely a better movie than Big Hero 6 which won that year.

Klaus would be a nice spoiler, but won't win due to genre "Christmas Story" mixed with "Netflix Release" which will kill it. Animation Oscars are really annoying because there have been multiple interviews with the judges where they never watched a single one of the nominees. It's one of the IDGAF awards for the judges.

I've heard from a leftist apologist that the left only sperged out about Joker because the alt-right embraced it as a symbol of hate. He also said the movie was cynically marketed to brain dead anti-SJWs who gobbled it up :story:

Hoes mad.

Not in them classroom scenes tho. And I can't believe people love Tomayothee Nepotism Chalamalet. Looks like he's dying of consumption. Bale is the best Laurie by far.

Tarantino thinks he gets privilege. He doesn't care. Theres that disgusting foot fetish, him actually choking Diane Kruger, and the shit Uma Thurman went through. I still love Kill Bill and always will but really hes just......too much.

Watson had most of her scenes cut or re-edited after test screenings last year. Her performance was said to be pretty bad and appears to have been salvaged in the editing room. She was a last minute replacement for Emma Stone.

It’s funny to see how completely sidelined Watson was from the rest of the cast; it’s like she completely ghosted/was ghosted by the project.

Saoirse Ronan is probably technically (in terms of actual ability) the greatest actress of her generation, she has a half dozen objectively great films in her resume. Watson's career is a bit different. She does the same Po faced routine in every movie she's in. She also has a history of fucking up the promotion of a movie as well, feeling that anytime a camera is pointing at her, she has to give her thoughts on politics.

She's like a completely talent less Bree Larson.

What a load of bullshit, it's insane that someone would really believe that.

Is this someone you know personally? Tell them that they are no different from a brainwashed Scientologist or FLDS member and they need to pop their head out of their ass.

Watson sucks shit, terrible actress and idiotic person.

Saoirse Ronan is such an odd case for me because when it comes to women I like them to have a little more going in the chest department, you know? So she has a pretty meh body, but her face! If I was banging her I could definitely get off just by staring into her hypnotic eyes.

My thirstiness aside, she really is a very talented actress, I actually loved the movie Ladybird.
