2020 Oscars Discussion - complain about how Uncut Gems nor the Lighthouse weren't nominated here

Joaquin definitely deserves best actor, but Joker probably won't win any awards past that.
I doubt Joker will win anything except best actor. I'm already surprised that it got this many nomination. I like the movie, I just have very little faith in Oscar.
The one other I am confident it'll win is Best Original Score. The Critic's Choice Awards and Golden Globes both awarded Hildur Guðnadóttir (among several other organisations) so I'm very optimistic it'll at least get this.

Where the fuck is Florence Pugh’s Best Actress nomination for Midsommar? I’m hurt.

I hope Klaus wins Best Animated Feature. It’s an utterly gorgeous movie.

At least Florence was nominated for Little Women, though Midsommar was a far superior film and performance.

I'm honestly saddened that Pattinson and Dafoe weren't nominated.

I could talk all night about how that movie practically made me fall in love with Pattinson because his performance is so so far ahead of his acting in Twilight. Probably my favorite performances of the year. Yes, more than Joker even though that movie kinda deserves to win everything.

And my mom and sisters laughed when I called him a great actor. Boo.

Yeah, people are already bitching that Gertwig wasn't nominated for Little Women and Lupita didn't get nominated for Us. I understand the former, that sucks, but it's crazy that there are people out here who think Us was a particularly great movie. And then there's all the people mad that fucking Jennifer Lopez wasn't nominated.

Gear up, folks, we're getting an #OscarSoWhite 2.0, especially if Joker sweeps. There's lots of blue checkmark black people posting very openly racist shit about white people if anyone wants to go salt mining.
Us wasn't good but got to say Lupita was good in it, better than some of the noms but then again other people that didn't get noms that were also better.

I'm so incredibly happy for Pattinson for stepping up and proving his talent. I thought he was even better than Dafoe in The Lighthouse. At least now he's getting more roles. Maybe next time.

Still got a few movies I got to watch before I gave my thoughts on the bigger category, however nice to see animation noms aren't shit this year and full of disney shit.

Shame Monos did get any noms, should be up for best foreign film, sound mixing and cinematography.

Also best visual effects is a joke, Lion King looked bad in motion and environments looked pretty bad as well.
The Irishman cgi faces weren't great, they still looked older than they were meant to be and it has cases of floating heads and some weird face movements.
Avengers Endgame has some great cgi and some downright awful, Thaons looked great but cgi for someone like Spiderman is shocking bad.
If Lion King could get snubbed for animated feature, why the fuck did they keep it around for VFX? The whole movie is one long VFX shot, that shouldn't even count. Plus it looks ugly as sin. But if we're being realistic, it or Endgame will win. Star Wars stopped getting nods after RoTJ, Irishman is probably just there to break up the Disney monotony, and I don't know what VFX are in 1917 to really make an informed opinion on it.

Lion King 2019 wasn't submitted as an animated feature, Disney have been big on it's "live action"

Oh right. Still, it makes no sense given it's all animation. And labeling it in the VFX spot is utterly pointless. Wonder if that was a comprimise on both parties' part.

No, the first best animated feature award was 2001 where Shrek won, however it was up for best visual effects at the time.

Actually, I was just referring to Best Visual Effects. I already know Best Animated Feature didn't exist back then.
