3D Movie Maker - Microsoft's own animation software for kids, although not technically a "game", it is still considered one by some people

Oh man I remember this program! I remember making one movie that involved a plane hijacking/gunfight and doing some clunky but serviceable bootleg special FX.

It was kind of a golden age back in that day for artsy programs---more like software toys than PhotoShop or Blender.

KidPix, the 3rd Dimension, KidCAD...Good times, so much nostalgia.

oh god sherman... sherman is awesome when it comes to 3dmm movies and modding, and hell, even mspaint, his mspaint drawings are fabulous!!!

and guess what, he doesnt like me 😭 (i had to censor my discord avatar and username because i wanna keep my discord private)

Panoots - Dial M For Mummy

Long ass video, but I love this vid and return to it regularly. This video was made on a livestream over the course of ~10 hours. I like how improvised and off-the-cuff it is. You can tell that the guy who made it picked out what I assume was a random voice clip in the software and decided to build an entire story around it.

Out of all of the antiquated video-making software that has been revitalised by the current Internet (3DMM, Flipnote Hatena, GMod, SFM), there's something about the 3D Movie Maker videos that I respect the most, be it the charming early 3D backgrounds or the potential for some surprisingly dynamic animation. At the risk of sounding like a post-ironic zoomnigger that has had their dopamine receptors wrung out like a washcloth, there's also something about the bit crushing on these videos which enhances the comedy.

I quote this video all the time lol.

My dad bought bought a Sony Vaio when I was a kid and it had 3DMM pre-installed. My friends and I spent countless hours making videos roasting each other and generally just having a good time. I guess I need to look into getting this running on a modern machine.

Love this program, there are so many amazing movies that go under the radar because a lot of newer 3dmm movies are just low effort shitposts. My favorite movies were the Vlarion 1 remake, sgt steve, and the big movie 1 and 2. A bunch of these movies can be found on youtube, the best place is supacat99's channel.

How difficult is this to use? I feel like it'd be fun for making some animated MATI segments.
I had a busted ass 486 as a kid and had Nickelodeon 3D Movie Maker for it. I don’t know if there are any huge differences between the two, but I remember the thing being REALLY clunky. Moving characters around a plot wasn’t difficult… but I have this distinct memory of trying to place liquid into a cup, and failing miserably because you had to do it frame by frame. There were probably ways to group objects together to make it much easier, but I was under 10 years old at the time. I had no clue about what I was doing.

These animations posted here have been pretty funny though, so I’m going to give it a whirl when I get some free time.

i need to perform my kiwi duty and notify you guys that this guy has a thread here btw
there is a beautiful irony that it's likely pvt sherman that made that very same thread and wants to stomp OP's guts out, even making a new account just to tell him to fuck off
pokerman? nah well i'm not pokerman i'm
pvt sherman

you may even say, it's kino

There was a Nickelodeon version, too. Haven't thought about them in years - I was more interested in the fact that 3D Movie Maker used McZee from Creative Writer than anything else.

My dreams to this day still sometimes look like this game. A couple years ago I looked up some newer creations but I didn't know it was still such a big deal.
