I'd like to know too. warosu started experiencing downtime a couple of weeks ago, briefly returned online, and is now down again. Similarly, fireden has been phasing in and out of operation since April. I hope both don't die permanently.

The 2020s are shaping up to be the period of archive death.

wakarimasen: died in 2022
archive.nyafuu: died in 2022
rebeccablacktech: died in 2021
yuki: died in 2021

I think the only new archive site hat got created in the past 3 years that is still around is archive.palanq.
I'm not to knowledgeable with archives but what happened to the content of those archives? Are they just lost to time now or did someone preserve the content of them somewhere else?

archive.nyafuu's data was incorporated into archive.palanq, and rebeccablacktech's data was incorporated into desuarchive.

Both yuki and wakarimasen are complete losses afaik.

I can add that images, at least for /vp/, seem to be missing past a certain point. Linked an old thread in the Pokemon discussion one here and most images are missing, managed to pull out a few from my old folder but that doesn't scratch the surface of what was posted or sell the experience you would get if you read the thread when it was made.
If you like something, you will simply have to archive it yourself, be it in form of archive.today or a whole page screencap tool. Wayback machine is known for deleting content so I wouldn't trust them.

Wouldn't surprise me if warosu is down for good, it's expensive to run and the admin has had to deal with vast amounts of CP spam (both from 4chan itself and the ghost-posting feature)

All of these archives were supposed to be on much cheaper and more efficient software bases by now (in fact, by 5 years ago) but it never happened

4chan is kind of a mirror of what the internet is. In the early days way back in the aughts everything was exciting and new and everyone tried things now that the tech had solidified and finally taken off, and that made 4chan so interesting as the wild west of the internet, in a way. Now everyone is just constantly bitter, fighting, angry and arguing in bad faith for whatever agenda and that's all what 4chan is, as a result. Since the general tone has become so destructive, there's nothing of value on that site anymore. Might as well browse reddit.

That's also why I always say some new tech solution to "fix" social media will not help. It's the people, man.

Imagine paying money for storage space and bandwidth to archive the gazillion AI pics that now get posted on a daily basis that no one cares about.
They'd probably be useful to gather if you wanted a really large library to train on, especially if you crowdsourced curating them for quality. Probably if you repeated the process a few times you'd end up with better models.

I mean it in a good way: this reads like a post you'd see way back in the day on /r9k/ before the board was removed for awhile. Someone else probably remembers the timeline better than I do, but I want to say it was around 2012 that Moot axed the board and then when it came back (maybe 2014?) it gradually devolved into a de facto capital 'I' incel bitchfest.

For those who don't know, /r9k/ wasn't always the cancer that it is now where everyone just cries about not getting to squeeze a titty. It was like a more mature (I know how ridiculous that sounds in the context of 4chan) version of /b/ where most of the threads were just funny stories like your example; there were definitely lots of "Feels" threads but they had variety and depth a lot of the time, not the shit you see now that can be summed up as unsympathetic retards screeching "I WANT TO HAVE SEX BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SHOWER AND LEAVE THE HOUSE FUCK YOU I JUST KNOW ALL THESE WHORES THAT ACTIVELY HATE ME BUT ALSO DON'T KNOW I EXIST ARE SUCKING BLACK DICKS BILLIONS MUST DIE NO I WON'T GET A JOB THAT'S WHAT THE KIKES WANT ME TO DO."

Anyways, this just reminded me of some better, funnier times.

Every now and then I come back to take a look at what's happening, and it just gets worse and worse and worse. It's kinda sad, like seeing an old friend screw up their life and hit a new low whenever you see them.
I have a friend who still uses /a/, but I have no idea if that's been compromised yet since I don't really follow anime. It's like a nuclear explosion where you have the epicenter (/pol/, /r9k/, /b/, etc) that are hit the hardest. And then the radiation slowly seeps into the surrounding communities (/o/, /g/).

4chan are honestly fucking retarded. I just got banned for some AI porn crap on /aco/. The thing is that I never posted on /aco/ and the DALL-E Threads are fucking cringe. Jannies need to get their eyes checked.
