Man, 4chan been in a quality freefall since 2014, though many say the decline started in 2008 (I was on SA at that point) 2014 was a decline it never recovered from (2016 was a momentary return to form in trying to get a reality tv host elected as president for the lulz). Formatting the site for smartphones was the beginning of the end. Easier to ban evade, can shitpost 24/7 on the go, and nothing will happen against them specifically for using phones because phoneposters don't install adblock.

Gamergate was basically the end of classic 4chan and basically the end of /v/ being the main board of 4chan after it took the crown off /b/ with the main board being /pol/ or /tv/ or /sp/
