This implicates that Hiromoot has been selling 4chan off towards interested groups.
Not really, Good Smile were part of the original deal where Hiroyuki bought the site from Moot. None of this is new information either.

FYI a shell of Good Smile tried to buy 4chan in like 2005 but moot wasn't interested. Never saw anyone report that even though it's available on the front page of Google. Journalists are worthless.

>so I kinda thought about my own experience which was a Japanese toy company back in like 2004 or 2005; not J-list, actually now it's defunct, they went out of business but it was kinda like just a junkie toy store -who would later advertise with us-, who tried to buy the website and they’ve offered me 50 thousand dollars as in 2004/2005, and I've said ‘you know, no thank you’ and they later opted to go. I posted my response of that e-mail, it's on my oldest blog entry on chrishateswriting.com. In my response I basically just said that I’m not really looking to sell it I think it has a lot of opportunities to grow and to have fun with it and so no thank you. Ever since then we have never really honestly received a credible- I mean every now and on people over the years emailed me and said 'I wanna buy 4chan’ and I usually responded them “$TACOS” (dollar sign tacos) and that kind of bullshit or I ignored it; for the most parts I ignored it- I think we have never received that one kind of credible offer over the years that bared that one. It's incredible as it turned over the years, you think people would wanna buy a site with so many lovely people with high disposable income and have a very understanding and loving towards- Hah, no, as it turns out, people don't wanna own a website like 4chan so we don't really get to get inbound interest. So yeah I don't really think that- yeah, I think that was only time that I ever got something like that and that was a long time ago.

Another FYI, 4chan has been profitable since at least when passes were added (and probably long before that also because of ads.) During the heartbleed hack pass sales were leaked and it was several hundred times greater than the operational expenses of serving 1.2tb of live media and 50mb of text to a 4chan-sized userbase.

The journalist Justin Ling who wrote that Good Smile "kept 4chan online" is mentally retarded. But I guess that was implied in the word journalist

This is from the Author Substack. It’s behind a paywall so here it is.

It seems the author is blatantly attempting to get the site shut down like they tried with Kiwifarms. They can try if they want but I doubt the internet hate machine™ will be going away anytime soon.

I thought 99% of 4chan was already AI?
I was disappointed, I thought these would be directly AI generated posts, but it's just random posts with a banner beneath them. 4chan April Fools jokes have consistently at least been fun to participate in, this isn't very fun nor funny.
It really comes across as the mods seething at the people calling 4chan AI infested

How profitable can 4chan be? With that reputation the site seems more useful for Below the Line campaigns and guerrilla marketing rather than traditional upfront advertising but the people doing that sort of stuff don't necessarily have to pay anyone just to astroturf their product on the site. Crypto scammers and Indie game devs have actually been fairly succesful spamming their own bullshit in there.
I heard rumors that a certain Ex-Facebook tried buying it for 25 million but the deal fell through. Mind you this is when I was working for the Watkins duo, I also spoke to said employee but I don’t have proof anymore. Take it as you will.

Remember, AI isn't remotely intelligent. It isn't self-aware. It is a crude mockery of what a human might say.

It is still smarter than most reddit posters. And 4chan posters.

And probably someone could make an AnOminous model, kill me, and jack up my post output to infinity and beyond, and nobody would notice.

I'm not sure but I think that was a goofy ascii type face thing in jp onlines before that and Danbo was referencing it?
I don't think that's the case. The image of the face that gets put there is called danbo.png, stored at https://sneed.4cdn.org/image/danbo.png

That's true, neural networks are just a way to approximate some hidden function. Or at least that was their entire purpose. You start off with some sigmoid curve being run on the inputs of the nodes in the network and then those getting summed up. Then training the network is adjusting those weights and/or curves. I'm no expert, so correct me if I'm wrong.

But I don't think that is the argument that many of these people who believe that AI is conscious, but rather that there is nothing uniquely biological/human that a replicator machine cannot (at least in theory) replicate, Thought yes, these LLMs that everyone is so amazed by have no internal processes, let alone an internal simulation of the world, and just a crude mocery of memory. More than good enough to simulate what a redditor behaves like.
