Best way I can describe it is it's like Discord, but with more terrorism. I'm joking a bit, but Telegram is definitely more lax about the kind of content it suppresses/censors, so a lot of political dissident types use it. Despite the way some in the media portray Telegram, I've never run across terror groups or CP while using it, even when I browsed through some "sketchy" channels. Basically any of the gory combat footage from Ukraine that shows up on /pol/ or Twitter originates on Telegram, for example.

It does require a phone number to sign up, unlike Discord.
How do you do illegal stuff if it requires a number?
true and real. PS1/N64/Saturn + Dreamcast is the cut off for retro. it doesn't matter how old anything else is, it's not a retro video game. call it whatever you want, but it's not retro and doesn't belong on /vr/
Cut off point is arbitrary. Some say the PS1, others say the PS2. Now PS3 and 360 are old enough to be retro and there's nothing you can do about it.

Call of duty Modern warfare is my favourite retro game.

I always wondered what people considered a slide thread because I never saw one. If your definition is what everyone else is using then no wonder 4chan is fucked. A guy says "I like GMs, what other series have GM like mecha?" and you call it a slide thread. There's some spam there but a lot of what you're marking is valid content and has been since the early days of /m/. There is some garbage but you're upset over people asking for mecha recommendations on a mecha board. And you think people are trying to slide threads off a board as slow as /m/? There's trolling on there, some porn threads and annoying spam but you can't tell the difference between a standard thread starter and spam.

Twitter screencaps have ruined so many websites. I don't understand Telegram, how does it work?
I like to believe the whole twitter screencap thing is psyop/troll to get people angry, it takes more effort to screenshot a retard's opinion than just copy paste it to the thread with the image, they know it's easy replies cause everyone falls for it instead of just hiding it.
Maybe even most mods are involved in it, with the state of the jannies now its not hard to believe. Still no word why they removed the IP counter.
Only on /a/ have I never seen a twitter screencap, they still copy images from there but its still better than the rest of the website.
Just as 4chan stole the funny OC crown from Something Awful as SA began to die due to tranny entryism, so too does 4chan now die due tranny entryism. I've seen more funny OC on places like Twitter and Telegram in the past few years than 4chan.
Why make OC on an anonymous basket weaving board when you can post it somewhere with usernames and get recognition and a following (more people care about this than you would think).
4chan has less and less value to come back to and its very sad to see.

Gears of War and GTA IV are retro and there's nothing you can do about it
I don't understand how its the general consensus that retro = 20 years old or something, are you really telling me in 2 years people will call the PS3 retro when most games don't look far off from whats being released today. Makes my blood boil my vote counts as much as these people.

You see, Little Big Planet is actually a good game.
A game being good is now a retro thing.

I do also plan to include a section on specific notable threads/posters, but these are more focused on their reach outside of their containment zone and/or ability to metastasize into orbiting communities. Candidates so far are /blacked/, /dbs/, /hmofa/, /ptg/ (is it even still relevant? been a hot minute, will have to check), /ng/, the cluster of AI Image Generation threads across the entertainment/multimedia boards, and maybe /aicg/, alongside ecker and whatever bot is currently impersonating Lee Goldson/barneyfag.
If you're gonna talk about subcommunities, you have to talk about Nu-Shonen fags like JJK or CSM. The absolute retarded shit you see there everyday would discourage most people from reading the series.

Because it's a generation of people. Child to adulthood is 16-21 years depending on the region. So a nice round number like 20 fits well. There has to be ways to divide old from new games and that's just the point we've collectively decided on. If it makes your blood boil you're literally retarded because you can still define by generation if you want to be that specific or you can say "old games are old" and get angry that time made newer things old as older things were when we decided they were old enough to need a definition of being old.

Like someone else said the cutoff point of retro should be the 5th generation, retro isn't tied to the passage of time but the style, mechanics, graphics and the development practices and hardware used, the 7th generation is still much closer to what we have today and probably 5 years into the future, if anything retro should be about how something feels or looks rather than simply being x years old.

5th generation is when things went 3D so it should be 4th generation. But the Gameboy advance is 6th generation and that's pretty much a portable Super Nintendo. There is no good way to define retro and any time you put a fixed point except time you end up with problems like Megaman 10

This game is not retro. It came out on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It's a title after Gen 5 so it doesn't count.

Actually checking the thread you brought up, anons specified what actually makes it a slide thread. The images are taken from another thread on the board that the spammer was posting their spam in, which was on page 10. The spammer then makes the new thread within minutes, with the image from the other thread, to push the other spammed thread off page 10 and into the archive, where it's probably less likely to be actioned by lazy ass tranny jannies or mods because it's already off the board. The new thread has the veneer of being a "real thread," but it's just spam. Spam to hide other spam in other threads, now hidden further in the archive. If the thread does somehow get moderator attention and get banned, you'll always hilariously find this spammer screeching in ghost posts on desuarchive about "HOW COULD THE MODS DO THIS TO A TOTALLY REAL THREAD I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT OP (WHO ISNT ME BTW) DID WRONG", which is pretty big retarded tell that they are intentionally trying to couch the spam as being legit threads to hope mods are too clueless or permissive to do anything. If it doesn't get pruned, it just falls off the board with 5 or less replies cause it's hollow as fuck. There's a reason a lot of dedicated image spam/porn boards have an unwritten rule about OP having to "post three" before anybody else will contribute anything.

EDIT: I should note this is somewhat different than a "slide thread" as normally described, especially on places like /pol/. A /pol/tard would use it to describe bait thread meant to distract and demoralize the board's user base from using other informative, useful or fun threads, and to "slide" active threads off the board in an avalanche of trash. This is still "sliding" other threads off the board on purpose with low effort trash, but it's being done to inactive threads to hide one samefag's posts that they know are against the site's rules, because they have been banned for doing it before, hence why they now have to spam in the deadest of threads, usually general threads past bump limit that cannot be brought back to the top of the board where they risk getting nailed.

In an anti-virus like reaction to all this shit, other anons have started counter spam-posting on-topic images until image limit in threads at the bump limit to prevent this tard's off-topic spam. Here, the spammer is seething about just that in the thread they took the GM image from originally.

I'm sure the board still likes GMs fine, just seem heaps mad at this spammer, but even more so at the shitty mods. It's a trend I've noticed sitewide that mods are more likely lately to take the time to remove posts from an obvious spam thread, rather than delete the entire spam thread, and that's fucking baffling, since -not only must that be more time consuming- it's just going to fill up again with more people angry about spam, and even angrier now because now the jannies look like they are actively defending spammers/viral advertisers (which they probably are).

You can power-up a PS3/Xbox 360/Wii/3DS, not connect it to the internet, put a disc in it, and play a game.
No online update, no micro transactions, no battle pass, no daily quests, not always online.

That's pretty retro ancient dinosaur way of life there my dude.

It's just a couple retards who refuse to let a good thread exist because they suspect it was made by the board's spammer, with whom we may as well learn to coexist at this point because banning him doesn't work and the jannies are probably sweeping for him. The most effective way to deal with him would be to hash ban his spam images and word filter all variations of "Duelrager" since that's the real issue more than him simply posting on the board, but that won't happen because jannies are allergic to good ideas.

Taking an image from another thread and making an on topic thread about it seems a very weird way to spam. I've done that on many boards in the past. If I saw a cool GM and wanted to talk about GMs because of the image I would take it.

If he's making on topic posts and anons spam them with actual spam posts you can understand why the jannies work with the slide poster. I guess I've been away from 4chan for too long. I don't understand how any of this works. When spam is on topic threads I don't know what spam is any more.

So its just more Preciousleaf tier bullshit? At least you don't get banned for simply talking about other spammers like the jannies would do for him because they were his friend. Why the fuck is this cliquish bullshit allowed to fester at the expense of greater online culture?

Sure you could say dumb shit like "its the internet, it doesn't matter like IRL lol" but we are at the point where its simply not true and every aspect of daily life is routed through the internet in some way these days. Especially with the rise of social media and private group DM's that orchestrate gayops to push narratives like that.
