In a previous post, you said the cat couldn't close its jaw; now you said it could - eventually.

So, which is it?

What I said was, the vet claimed the cat couldn't even move the jaw. But I saw it move with my own eyes that evening he came home. He drank and ate as well as he could.

The only permanent disfigurement the cat had was his blinded eye.

Last I checked, cats aren't psychic.

Animals run away to die, don't they? The cat could've chosen to run away and die, but it didn't.

Then maybe don't take on the responsibility of being a pet owner if you can't afford to properly take care of their needs/injuries.

Its not difficult financially to be purchasing dog and cat food, but we still have to be sparring. My boys always meow for me to give them extra dry food and I give in when I shouldn't. And if they are desperate, they simply eat other wild animals. We have lizards and birds everywhere and cats are always eating them. One of my brother cats is known to devour entire birds.

And "Needs?" Is the cat really required to see the vet every year? Is someone gonna take it away if I don't? The cat doesn't care. If its sick, we will know and then we will call the vets assistant (like I said, he's not always on the island) and see what could be done.

But nobody around here goes to the vet like that. Blind luck nothing. Rabies does not exist here. We're too far away from any major continents.

Not to be a dick or anything, but I always thought Sorbet looked pretty small and acted pretty timid and wussy to be an outdoor cat.

I hear this all the time, but in my experience it hasn't been the case. All the pets I've had thoughout my entire life (cats included) that have passed away did so at home.

So I kinda wonder if it's more a specific phenomenon, or if it's an old wives tale, etc. Idk.

Yeah, I kinda got that impression too. Seeing as Chris and Barb are the owners, they're really only ones who can determine if it's capable of being safe outside. I'm actually curious if they know their pets well enough to make that determination? It depends on the overall intellect and instinctual habits of said pet(And health as well, like in Sorbet's case).
I see other people who have outdoor cats that are fairly old. Mine is an outdoor cat, he's ancient at 15 years old and is still hunting neighborhood rodents. Most cats don't seem to have trouble adjusting to the wild.
Really though, it's all just speculation about what happened. Someone spotting him meandering around and taking him in is gonna be just as likely as getting lost in the woods/city/hoard. I do hope he finds him though.

It's getting a little spergy in here so I put @MahFibro! in timeout and decided to leave a message here telling others to not be as serious about this as things have seemingly gotten.

The trope is not that cats run away to die, but rather that they crawl and hide when they die.

It's like getting injured, so you crawl and hide under somewhere to lick your wounds, but your wounds are too serious so you die that way.

So cats will die at home, but you'll find them hiding under a chair or some shit.

It is sad that Sorbet is lost, and I hope the poor animal was taken in by another family to give him comfort, clean water, food, and litter. But at the end of the day, there is no information about where he could've gone. Chris is upset that his cat is missing or rather was upset for a few days, but at the end of the day I think Sorbet getting away from the Chandler household is a blessing in disguise. The poor kitty looked miserable.
Not only that but I do wonder about the dogs. I'm a dog lover and owner myself and I know that dogs should be let out, fed and walked. Of course, Chris being lazy and Barb being an elderly shut-in isn't ideal for these animals.

I think that any animals the Chandlers own are going to be aggressive, or run away.

If Sorbet does return to the Chandler home, I do hope Chris doesn't try to pick him up if the cat is displaying weird behavior (as he might have rabies). Or if Sorbet comes back I hope Chris checks him for ticks.

Presumably his attending vet didn’t think there was a surplus of benefit to removing his eye. His gammy paw was likely causing him pain and/or presented an infection risk.

Anyone know if that 8-ball of an eye would still function in any capacity?

One of my cats is nearly 20 and blind. Her eyes are exactly like that and permanently dilated. They've been like that for years, but she has the slightest bit of peripheral perception. She does bump into things quite a bit, but her whiskers let her know when things are close so she doesn't hurt herself and she knows her way around and learns if things change fast enough.

I don't agree with letting cats outdoors for a few reasons (safety of the cat, of other people's pets, of native wildlife, speds who don't spay/neuter), and mine are all indoor-only. Sorbet has proved in the past to not have the best road sense and that should really have been a clue to keep him indoors. I doubt the paw would have hindered him but his eye would have made his road sense significantly poorer as it effects depth perception and so forth. I know it can be difficult to keep them in 24/7, mine occasionally make a break for it in my fenced off yard but one is fat and lazy and winds up rolling over and waiting for you to carry him back indoors and the other is so dumb that he got lost going through a hole in the fence next door and cried until I went to pick him back up so I know it would be pet murder to let them be outdoor cats.

I get the culture of letting cats wander and that it can be normal for a cat to disappear for a week or more and come back fine but if he doesn't have a history of doing that and also has a history of being hit by a car, plus poor vision it doesn't bode well. I hope the little guy is okay and was picked up by a shelter and rehomed but it doesn't seem too likely.

The other cat is ill, too?

GOD DAMMIT, CHRISTIAN!

Fuck. Stay classy, Chris. I know that we're not supposed to just sound off at him on here, but does anyone honestly believe that Pollo suddenly needs to be euthanised...odd that Chris decides to announce this just after one of his other cats has gone missing.

I'm probably stating the obvious here but if Chris took better care of his pets and didn't waste his hard earned money on shite then none of this would have happened in the first place.

Do hope Sorbet is okay though.

Can't wait for Barb to kick the bucket, so we can see photos of her on "da death bed". Chris will be begging to fulfill Barb's dying wish, which is to send Chris to Bronycon and pay for his breast implants to find a proper gentleman suitor at the event!
