This case actually led Congress to change legislation surrounding the insanity plea. One of those changes was the statute regarding “temporary commitment of an incompetent defendant for treatment to regain competency,” which is the statute that Angel is being held under. Instead of allowing people to escape punishment by claiming to be crazy, the new statute states that they are first medicated and treated prior to their trial until they are in a state where they're deemed competent to stand trial. Then, they are tried for their crimes, less than 1% (.23%) of people who use insanity/incompetence pleas are found not guilty under these new statutes, if you genuinely believe that angel (someone who isn’t insane) will beat his charges by pretending to be crazy you’re a genuine fucking retard.
