He refused to do live commentary on E3 and it didn't make sense why. Later though he mentioned Khet plays Elder Scrolls: Blades and it made me wonder if he watched E3 with her and that's why he didn't want to go live. Tevin mentioned he was typing in chat at one point, so he was present.

if he was watching with her, THEY COULD HAVE STREAMED IT. i get that hes afraid tevin is going to verbally rape her, but it would be something interesting. they dont even need to read chat, just comment on what theyre seeing and opinions. christ, he makes things so much harder for himself.

No, Phil's just an edgelord contrarian, so he will literally refuse to do something smart (live reactions) because other "mainstream" people are doing it. He also "takes notes", which I'm sure he thinks makes him better, even though he does literally no research beforehand and thus is left to simply repeat exactly what everyone just saw.

E3 will limp along forever, because even if every major company pulls a Sony and starts doing their own events, there's still antiquated business dealings like judge's week where they fly journalists out to preview games, the actual show where thousands of reviewers get to take a vacation they claim is backbreaking work, and at the end of the day it's the biggest gaming commercial on earth, and if the big guys leave the little guys like Devolver will be happy to get the attention.

But yeah, we're probably past the point where Twitch Reacts streams are cumulatively more popular than the entire E3 show.

And seeing how many people were watching other streams, I don't think Phil is out of touch anymore by not live reacting. He's just waiting until most other good streamers are done, and getting the leftover clicks of people searching for E3 during the gaps.

Watching his E3 "summary/ analysis," there's only one thing to say about Phil: he's a petty, petty man.

Every thing he said was negative. Not one positive fucking thing.

Don't get me wrong, I was watching Mr Mekotur's livestream of the MSFT E3 reveal and there was some great shitposting/ comments made by Mekotur in chat but even good ole' boomer Jimbo had some positive things to say about E3.

But Phil? Every reveal had to be shit on. Every game had to be criticized. What a god damn sour cunt. You can tell he's butthurt he had to be sitting in his shitty little "office" to provide his 2 cents about the reveals and he didn't have a VIP pass to the actual convention. That he wasn't personally reached out to and given a compensation package to travel to L.A.. That he couldn't bring his wife Khet with him and show her the good life he'd love to be able to.

No, he was just doing what he's always done: hating while standing on the sidelines. Phil is the guy who simply gets 86'd from the club. He's just not allowed to go in and starts talking shit: "Well, fuck these people anyways, I didn't even want to get in the club!"

He's a jealous, coveting fuck. And you can tell he was salty about feeling excluded from the big streamers of Twitch who were asked on behalf of MSFT and Twitch to cover the game reveals. It was clear as day by how salty he was playing MLB tonight.

You know, we talk a lot about how lucky Phil is on these forums, in many aspects. But watching this guy for five minutes (which is only what I can take these days anyways) always reminds me how negative and depressed his outlook about everything is. And your outlook on things and events is often a telltale sign of your internal wellness. Phil is not doing well by any measures. He's stressed, paranoid, and depressed. There's a silver lining after all.
 
I can't believe after all these years of covering it, DSP still doesn't know what E3 is. He still hasn't grasped the concept of announcement trailers and still does the exact same "Well... there was no in depth information so I can't really talk about it? What the fuck! What a waste of time!? I dunno what it was cause I did no research..."

Phil does not run a large gaming news site and he lacks the imagination and charisma to speculate wildly or express passion in response to a trailer. E3 is for game journalists and channels that are mocked by things like The Nerd Crew: secondary hype machines that will continue to generate interest in the products featured so developers and publishers don't need to keep paying people to do so.

Unfortunately Phil is only ever interested in hyping himself and so naturally everything else has to take a backseat to his spotlight. Since he's not a developer himself he can't tout the superiority of his own product and so the alternative apparently is to drop trou and take a shit on everything to keep the attention on him. On top of this is the problem that Phil hates video games, a fact that shines through so strongly here because it puts his complete dearth of interest front and center. He's naturally a negative person and so since he's not doing any real research his "analysis" is just going to be centered entirely on how much everything sucks. Acting like a giant unwiped asshole also earns him a ton of negative attention which further feeds his deluded ego - if the masses are telling him how wrong he is then he's certainly on the money, since everyone else is a brainless sheep idiot nudnik dumbass.

Of course he's misreading the room as always. People in the community who are cynical aren't watching E3 coverage at all because they don't give a shit, and people who are interested are getting their information and analysis from sources that don't make them feel stupid just for tuning in. Why he thinks everyone hatewatches everything just like he does is beyond me; most people have enough negativity in their lives without needing to actively seek more out.

I've noticed that more and more Phil misunderstands the world around him. Whether games, media, culture, you name it.

The idea that there could be showcase of teaser/hype trailers so that fans can be excited and research the trailered games that interested them more in depth is entirely foreign to him. Stage demos/etc might as well not exist if they aren't the first thing he sees.

You can't win with him though. You show a story trailer he whines there's no gameplay, you a show a gameplay trailer he whines there's no story, you show a mix, he whines there wasn't enough of each and they spent too little on both. If they go in depth he whines they take forever on the segment, if they go brief he whines its too short.

Nah when he sees a gameplay trailer, or exhibition like what was presented with Doom Eternal, he will say it was all rehearsed and cleverly crafted to show bits.

If he sees a trailer with no gameplay he will just criticize and make fun of what he sees on screen.

We all know the game he shits on he wont be able to play realistically. He's going to be playing most of these on consoles with downgraded graphics(which he will make a point to bitch about how the trailers were so misleading when it's so fucking obviously the case, when there are tiny letters saying its not the full game and subject to change like Watch Dogs) and the like, while also being handicapped with a controller.

Yeah Phil sure love to see your awesome gameplay of something like Doom with you fumbling about on your controller trying to do the most bare minimum shit when the game has so much to offer. Can't wait to see him talk over cutscenes and make fart jokes.

From what I've read via twitter about his shit talking in his chat, he only mentions the big AAA when there was some funny cool shit that I'm so interested in but he will never mention because it's some "shovelware kiddy shit".

Edit: Want to know how he felt seeing Keanu. We got met with the nice Ghostwire lady on stage and all he could say was to make fun of her trying to english.

Yeah, I got annoyed when he said the Doom Eternal footage was "scripted". What does that even mean? He thinks it was a Tool-Assisted Speedrun or something? They scripted it all out instead of simply playing it? That's way too much effort when you could just play it and get good footage all the same.

The guy who struggles with English himself is making fun of a non-native speaker (in front of hundreds in the audience and 500k+ online) struggling with English. At least she doesn't uptalk like you do.
