One of the Shadows is named Mehmet which is derived from Muhammad which means that Islam is canon to Ace Combat

Does it at least reference or explain the Sotoan-Yuktobanian War?
Given that Sotoa is a massive desert, and Yuktobania is based off of the USSR, you just know that the Yukes were Afghanmaxxing during their air campaigns. Wonder what the Strangereal equivalent of Swallowing Dust is.

Y'know, perhaps I judged the Sotoans too harshly.

Anyway what's everyone's favorite planes to use so far?
Pretty underwhelmed by the (campaign) aircraft tree this time since it's all normal shit we've had before and there aren't even any wow cool lasers and shit to look forward to (even if they suck).
On the other hand I appreciate the carrier thing giving me a reason to play with American planes instead of rushing for sexy Russian things for once. But they all look the same so I guess my favourite is whatever Super Duper Horncat thing I have unlocked so far.

Guns help but the thing went absolute apeshit on me the one time I managed to destroy its defenses using them, I think it's coded to compensate for whatever you break on it.
Yeah I think they do that boss thing where they endlessly pull new shit out of their ass when you've destroyed everything that can shoot at you too, so it's hard to knock them off again when you only have a few seconds where you need to be mashing more important buttons rather than cycling through these (changing) targets.

Anyway that mission was fun as hell. After the first attempt I think it helped that I'd been saving up to put Pinky in a Growler, so so the first one went down immediately with her spamming all her EW and I had ages to deal with the second one's bullshit.

Plus knowing where to aim, since the machine gun massively outranges your lock-on, even without gun upgrades and even with an anti-stealth upgrade, which I guess either does fucking nothing or this mission must be ball torture without.

i think that the music and pre-marketing hype was doing a lot of load bearing here. it didn't get as dramatic as i was hoping for, in the story. i absolutely enjoy the gameplay moment to moment, but it's sadly lacking on spectacles.

i will say, that the moment i felt was incredibly unique and moving was Mission 8 of all places. Coster's fanboying over Purple Magic for a few missions and the indie songs those guys made culminated in My Blue Sky Home and what makes this song stand out in the OST for me, and in-game, and the mission so unique... is that as the Purple Magic guys are dying off in-game, the song loses instruments. not even the most pretentious or esoteric indie-developed game has done this, it has to be a world first in video game music composition. it's so unhinged in a good way; it's super cool from a ludonarrative harmony perspective. it blends actual singer-songwriter content with video gamey BGM seamlessly.

characters in operas don't just have their own themes but those themes are interwoven in very odd ways sometimes. dynamic musical motif insertions, stuff like that. the whole early game is very operatic.

Toby Fox could never hope to match the genius of Keiki Kobayashi

The way the music kicks ina to hype you up as it covers the Satoan music being played to demoralize you was fantastic.

It might have worked better if it was deeper into the game and we'd had more of the Satoan military march announcing real shit about to go down.

Agreed on spectacle, but I think 8 really captures an engaging story better than 7, so its a good move in the right direction without trying too hard and coming off as cringe.

I didn't know about the instruments dropping out though, I kept all those guys alive my first playthrough.

I actually liked a lot in the missing or two after that where you run across the Sharks, who defected. None of them are happy about running into you, but everyone accepts it is what it is. I thought it was a nice sign of restraint by the writers to not get hammy with the brother against brother stuff there. The pilots all understand they have jobs to do even if they aren't happy about shooting down friends.

I am almost as big of a simp and cuck for Ace Combat as I am for Armored Core and I fucking loved 8. I even like the multiplayer, I'm that much of a hopeless bitch for planeslop.

The Sotoan Land Battleships and the other landships they had were fucking sick and that moment in that one mission (I forgor, I played through the entire game in an autistic trance in one session, okay?) where the two Podarges come in and they're carrying goddamn landships as paratroopers? I literally screeched as I watched their little rocket boosters go off to slow their descent and I realized what the hell the Podarges were doing. That is some nonsense a 9 year old would dream up and it made me and my Crazy Mecha Anime Bullshit autism as happy as a kid in a candy store.

10/10, BEST GAME, BEST GAME.

Well lets hope FromSoft releases AC6 DLC or AC7 instead of generic soulsborne #1488 (seriously why did the release a soulsborne extraction game on the Switch 2 of all places?)

Hades 2 actually has something similar. When you fight Scylla and her (literal) band of Sirens, their respective parts in the background song are muffled when they're in a stunned state.

Yeah I was hoping the "lone carrier" gimmick meant we'd get a whole Battlestar Galactica type plot, but no there's literally nothing else to it beyond what you see in the trailer and the characters don't even really seem to give a shit. Like losing your whole nation and military is such a regular and temporary situation, which I guess to be fair it totally is in Strangereal, that it feels like you're walking in on just another tuesday.

But it's an extremely Ace Combaty Ace Combat on the gameplay side, so whatever. I loved the way 7 told its story and the way it somehow knew you were in a flow state to hit you with that awesome soaring theme, but it had a lack of particularly memorable missions past the intro. While 8 is like oh, you like dismantling kilometer-wide super planes? Here's like 6 of them on a regular mission, no big deal. Or hey what if instead of just shooting down a rocket, you can shoot down two rockets, and also there are blimps aiming lasers to call down tungsten impactors from satellites while you do it and also the enemy aces show up to buttfuck your buddies on the other side of the map and also after the rockets blow up you have to play Pang with the debris before it hits the ground? Heck yeah game, sure thing.

Also in donkey Kong when you get Daisey the music stops and it counts up the score, you only hear that apes cold calculating laughter.

Chilling.

Playing through it slowly but the first Retaking Theves mission is my favourite so far for the sheer chaos. The radar is just a wave of LOL RAILGUN INCOMING, your improvised landing forces are screaming, and the orchestral piece gives it a sense of exhilaration that made AC7's early missions with Mihaly and the ADFX-01 drone so damn satisfying. The first land battleship showdown also for the hilarity of it, especially when you can tell the writers and designers for them were aping off of Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in terms of aesthetics and functionality.

Plus for beautiful meme mashups like this:

The Sotoan Land Battleships and the other landships they had were fucking sick
I love these things, it's like someone took the P-1000 Ratte and thought "yeah it's utterly retarded - but what if we hand wove away reality?" There's something immensely satisfying about seeing hundreds of thousands of tons worth of guns, metal, and men ride around on tracks without a care in the world. Sotoa: still need to liquidate 'em, but no denying they're living the dream.

Guys is the game woke? Like does it has any faggotry like stronk lesbians and Muh racism? Should i buy it? I liked AC7

Its got a smart black man and quirky asian woman and a redneck.

The black lady in charge of your squadron is probably a dyke.

Otherwise its wholesome Satoan deleting fun for the whole family.
