I see that this thread has been bumped. I might as well share my history with Adam Sessler right now about. My apologies if this might be a long post. I have a lot to say here, including some information that I don't think has been mentioned before, so anyways, here goes:
I first started watching Adam around the first quarter of 2001 when it was
Extended Play on TechTV. Kate Botello (Leo Laporte's original co-host on
The Screen Savers) was with him at that time. Kate eventually left the show and the whole channel a year later.
That next year of
Extended Play from April 2002 to April 2003 with just Adam hosting was nothing short of professional and personable, and anybody who met him in person during that time could vouch for that. He said that among his favorite games were
Ghosts 'n Goblins and
RoadBlasters (I love those games, too). Any reviews of one or two out of five games always had me in stiches. If someone from the future had gone back in time and told me that this dude was gonna become batshit insane, I would have looked at them like crazy.
A year later, Adam announced that the show would become
X-Play (jumping on the "xtreme" bandwagon that was all the rage during the late 90's and early 00's), and I even remember him referencing
Altered Beast when he first announced this change. They brought in Morgan Webb (yet another former cast member of
The Screen Savers) as his new co-host. It went on to become the most awesome and funniest video game review show ever. Looking back on it now, I could see why Comcast & G4 wanted to acquire it. Not to mention Morgan was the very definition of a geeky girl next door. I remember someone said that she was his first crush, and that he based his preferences on girls with that geeky and down-to-earth personality because of her.
Both Adam & Morgan had brilliant chemistry together. It was always funny how they always made Adam the butt monkey, while they had Morgan always be all pretty and smart. I never got tired of that. I've seen some people say that those sketches were actually telling in hindsight that they all knew all along that Adam was always a horrible human being, but to be perfectly honest with you, I don't think so. Because from what I understand, it was Adam who suggested that he would be made fun of on
X-Play, and also from what I understand, he said that he didn't mind always being overshadowed by his co-host.
Eventually, TechTV would be no more; in May 2004, Comcast & G4 announced that they had acquired it from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. One thing that was on a lot of people's minds was whether or not Adam & Morgan would be going to Los Angeles from San Francisco (where TechTV was based in). Both of them were strangely and noticeably radio silent about it. It eventually was confirmed by a camera operator who moved from TechTV to G4 on Leo Laporte's message boards.
A few years later, I kinda moved on from
X-Play, and a lot of it had to do with the 2008 revamp. I don't believe for even a single moment that it was "The Show Adam & Morgan Always Wanted", because just about everyone hated it. Looking back on it now, it seems that the show, during its 2003-2012 run, was something that just couldn't please everyone. I remember people were getting increasingly annoyed by the sketches that were taking away from what was supposed to be about reviews, but all of a sudden, people were then like, "Hey, I miss those sketches! Bring them back!".
And then on April 25, 2012, a major bombshell was dropped: It was announced that Adam was fired from G4. It was saddening to me. They fired him without a proper sendoff or even a farewell episode. He went on to Rev3Games, until suddenly, in 2014, he announced that he was moving on from the gaming industry. He would reunite with Morgan a few more times after this.
Which brings us to today, as 2025 comes to a close, and 2026 begins. What a sad, sad devolution this has been to witness for over a decade. The differences between the Adam of 25 years ago and the Adam of today couldn't be anymore like night and day. It's almost as if he got killed and replaced with an evil alien clone.
Now, I don't know what Morgan's politics are. For all I know, they could be the same as Adam's. But the fact of the matter is, I haven't seen her be gung-ho about them the same way Adam is. She seems to mainly keep to herself. I saw some posts earlier in this thread from
@MirrorNoir (hope you don't mind me tagging you) that Morgan mostly remains friends with Adam because of his wife and kids. Morgan deserves an immense "Thank You" for hating that evil piece of shit Zoe Quinn, and blaming Zoe for getting Adam hooked on drugs. To say that my respect for Morgan is a bajillion times even more than it was when I saw the premiere of
X-Play back in April 2003 after reading this would be an understatement.
I'll end this initial post of mine in this thread by proclaiming that if Adam dies of a drug overdose, Zoe Quinn will forever be remembered as the "Andy Dick of the Gaming Community" (some people blame him for supplying Phil Hartman's wife the drugs that made her kill him and then eventually herself).
