Honestly he wasn't. I'm old and autistic enough to remember nearly 20 years ago (how could it be that long ago???) when he had "Sessler's Soapbox" an online only editorial and he was clearly always a "bleeding heart liberal" but he wasn't fucking nuts.
In this video Sessler addresses the controversy of Activision uploading a joke video called "Fight Against Grenade Spam," And one could argue that Sessler here was already an "SJW" just for the sheer fact he's saying that calling someone a FAG online is "Hate Speech", hell he even suggests that game devs should perhaps police offensive language which they would do years later. But he wasn't unreasonable back then. He wasn't calling gamers circa 2000s bigots for using slurs, he just was saying "Hey it's not nice to say slurs to strangers online be more creative."

It's sad to see what hubris & drug abuse does to a normal person.

I'm probably blinded by nostalgia; I do have fond memories of watching X-Play and Ninja Warrior. But I'm gonna miss this neurotic prick if he's really done with Twitter!

One of the best damn photos of the 2010s, I mean look at him trying to look like a tough guy. It's hilarious. I can't help it but I feel obliged to defend Sessler, why is it such a big deal that a middle aged man throws flamebait comments into the Twittersphere? Like you gotta be a real pussy to get mad when Adam would write his "Fuck Gamers" screeds.

Now I'll admit that The Sess trolled me, but I got annoyed when he bitched that he "wasted his life" being in the entertainment industry, doing a job which from my perspective looks easy & paid well. But still I'll never deny it Sessler gave me lots of entertainment. I hope he's not riding into the sunset, I want more verbose reviews!

I think it is worth noting he became a has-been a minimum of 12 years ago with the first death of G4. I'd argue his relevance fell out around closer to 15 years ago, since that's when reading online gaming news and streaming trailers likely overtook G4. Someone who is 22 today would've been 10 when G4 first died. If we consider G4 was basically dead by 2009 with the advent of online video and the explosion of online reviewing personalities that started around then then someone who is 22 now would've been 7.

I'm pretty sure you need to be closing in on 30 at the youngest to really have been fans of G4 back during its original run. The earliest zoomers are 27 this year and I'd still say the majority of zoomers don't know what G4 was really.

As for actually having cable, I know at least up in Canada G4 and other tech channels were surprisingly uncommon in common bundles. Mind you I came from a family that was really early to cord cutting giving up on network TV before the 2010s hit as we already had things like Netflix and some early high seas streaming options so it might have become more common before G4 died the first time in 2012.

All of this is to say, Adam Sessler has such a massive ego for a man over a decade past his obscure peak.

It’s the duality of gamers; deep down most people know that games by and large enjoyable entertainment. I mean on some level yes a good competitive game is no different than a hobby. But really most people play games as a fun time waster just like watching television. And yet gamers obsess over them. We treat the best games as works of art. I mean we play them for dozens of hours.

Adam knows he was just a 2000s entertainer. But he also wants to be seen as a critic, a “tastemaker.”

When he’s on his coke rants and going “Fuck Gamers” I think he’s saying “Fuck Me!” No one else would care about something so trivial as ancient G4 reviews. But Adam cares, if he doesn’t come back to Twitter he’ll surely have some anonymous account and share his ramblings.

See, that's probably down to two things. One, there wasn't really any social media back then so it was more difficult to discern what a fucktard he was. Two, he was on television and probably had the network or a station manager or whatever, reining him in and making sure he didn't go on tirades about Bush while he was on the air
