This is a fascinating look into Phil's psyche. Not him, that's just the usual fat tard wearing a balaclava, shades and fingerless gloves indoors. No, what's really fascinating is the wall behind him.

Phil has a hammer on his wall. A goddamn hammer. Either he's so short of room he's forced to use the walls to store stuff, or, much more likely, Phil thinks his hammer is a super scary, deadly weapon that should be shown off to prove how tough and badass he is, and how well-prepared he is for a "home invasion". That anyone but a child could get a hefty punch, a blade, or a couple or four bullets into Phil before he could hit someone with a heavy and slow hammer doesn't seem to have occurred to him. The heavier the weapon, the longer it takes to lift and swing it, and a longer swing is needed to get any force behind it. Plus, if Phil lives in a tiny broom cupboard there's not going to be enough room to swing his hammer as a weapon.

There's also one of his beloved hand-drawn posters, featuring someone in military gear and a face mask, and carrying the red and black anarchist's flag. The poster reads "GRS surgery". Because optional cosmetic surgery to live out a sexual fetish, while fucking your body up and ensuring you'll spend the rest of your life taking big pharma's hormone pills is SO ANARCHIST.

There's also a poster dedicated to the M25, which is possibly the only poster he's ever made that's actually relevant - being as the M25 motorway has London-bound traffic in utter gridlock every day, fucking shit up in the capitalist mecca that is the capital of the UK. Or he could be talking about the Mexican gang, in which case the poster isn't relevant at all and Phil is talking crap yet again.

But with all this posturing masculinity spread all over the walls, where is your gun, Phil? Why don't you have it hanging over your bed, in pride of place, to show everyone just how scary you are? It wouldn't be because you don't actually own a gun, would it?

I think the hammer is supposed to symbolize some pinko Commie faggotry, because the hammer and sickle. Phil has to prove what a dedicated...whatever he is these days...he is. It's just another prop for his identity games and power fantasies.

I suspect the latter, if only because he’d get stopped by the police all the time if he wore a balaclava when waddling to the store.

I think it serves three basic functions. Firstly, he thinks it makes him look badass, as opposed to merely a person whose ass is bad. Secondly, that he thinks it makes it less obvious that he’s not actually attending protests. And most importantly, that he hopes it hides his receding hairline, rat teeth, pig nose and neckbelly.

He gets delivery pizza instead of going to the store, and for the few things he does need from the store I'm sure he just asks whoever he's bumming a room from to pick it up for him. I'm sure he takes that stupid shit off on the rate occasions that he does go out so he doesn't get hassled by the cops, but keeps it on all the time when he's home. Like you said, it helps him reinforce the delusion that he's a badass, allows him to say he was at protests that he was never really at, and it hides his fat, ugly face (that's the most important reason).

Phil only wears his balaclava, black tacticool vest etc at home because the whole antifa look is a cosplay to him. It's a character he plays, same as when he used to derp around his mum's house in Philly dressed as Sasuke from Naruto and answering posts on Deviant Art as if he was that character. It's also why the only time you see Phil outside in his cosplay is a nice, safe gathering where he can stand on the fringes, away from trouble but near the media, and pose as the character he wants to larp as. Sure he'll give you an interview, he's been a houseless discriminated against gay trans nonbinary lesbian disabled latinx neurodivergant victim bravely fighting for his life for years now. Just don't ask him any other questions because he doesn't have a clue - he's just there to look good and to have people notice and applaud him for looking the part. It’s the second time he’s made reference to soymilk. I think it’s another of those things where he gets it in his autistic head that two things are related, like when he thought bikes were communist.
