There is absolutely no reason any legitimate demonstration (unless it is literally against the police) should pointlessly antagonize the police. I really can't see Phil getting into far-right/alt-right politics for one simple reason: they aren't demanding free shit for NEETs like Phil. He has power fantasies where he's an intimidating authority figure who people have to defer to or else. He likes fascism. It makes him feel tough, it makes him feel relevant. He's tried being a Communist, he's tried being a revolutionary, he's tried being antifa. He just likes the idea that latching onto some group will give him power. We've seen him flirt with Communist imagery, IDF imagery, al-Qaeda/ISIS imagery, gangsta imagery, BDS&M imagery, Naruto imagery, First Order imagery, even neo-Nazi imagery. There's nothing consistent to any of it, no ideology behind it, he just wants to intimidate people. Its all just pretend and dress up for him at the end of the day. There's not much difference in his mind between some anime and the real life atrocities of the Third Reich or ISIS.

Also to be really fair, the alt right does kind of rely on promises. Oh sure they promise different things. They tell their followers they'll get everything they want. They tell them its all the fault of the liberal media, or immigrants stealing jobs, or atheism destroying "traditional values." They tell their followers they'll bring back factory jobs, and they'll all get girlfriends once they crush feminism, and that people will say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays." Its actually pretty likely that sort of thinking would resonate with Phil considering his background and xenophobia. At his heart he's still a sheltered suburban kid lashing out at his parents. Except of course that his teenage rebellion phase came much later than most kids, and its lasted far longer.
