Advice on building a PC - "Who doesn't need 26 gigs of RAM?"

Shit, I dunno. I actually need to grab a screen from this decade though first.

I mostly want to be future proof TBH.

Definitely not VR though, I don't need to worry about anything like that.
Well if you're like most people and are just looking to play on a 1080p screen at the usual 60fps, then that 980 should still be fine. What would your budget be for future proofing your card?

I'd suggest getting a good screen before getting a new card, the 980 is fine as it is and that can wait a while. A better screen will make games and windows look better so there's a tangible graphical upgrade when buying a screen.

Alrighty then, screen it is!

Took home a computer my workplace was gonna throw out. I'm planning on gutting it and replacing all the decade old hardware with newer stuff, but I'm not sure what case it uses. I've found a similar looking case by the same company (Cooler Master) on PartsPicker, but it doesn't have frontal USB ports like this one, which is possibly going to cause issues for my chosen motherboard. Anyone know what case this is, or where it's model type would be displayed?

Good ol' Coolermaster Centurion 5 (revision 1), had one myself. It's a shame the meshfilters and front fan can't be easily removed or replaced, other wise i still had it.

Reminder to Ryzen users that overclocking your memory is the most overlooked way to get better framerates in games, Corsair LPX'es that are advertised for 1500mhz can easily get 33 to 66 mhz faster and have their CAS lowered by 1 or 2 ticks (remember to enter only even values) if you set vmem to 1.43 or 1.44 volts. Memory is pretty low current and can handle it without having to worry about profound heat dispersal or electron migration (most motherboards have only a single RAM buck converter for a reason). you could squeeze out even more if you have ECC modules.
As added bonus you get a faster fabric clock!

Memory tuning is even more important for the -G series Ryzens with integrated graphics, as the system memory also has to serve as graphics memory.

Heat regulation is very important, due to the fact that having your PC fan rev up like a jet engine in the middle of watching a movie is nails-on-chalkboard-annoying.

Get the biggest case you can, OP. More room allows for more space between components allowing for better heat transfer. It also allows for bigger fans, which can move the same amount of air at a lower rpm than a smaller fan. Lower rpms means less noise.
