Alan Wake II - The highly anticipated sequel that no one cared about to a game from 2010 that no one cared about

To everyone that rated my comment "dumb" a few months ago... my only regret is that there isn't a "Dumbest" rate, because I sure earned it.

Man, talk about buyer's regret! I take back every single thing I said defending this game and the developers.
You didn't notice the boy lovers symbol when inputting the konami code?

I'm sure AW2 would be salvageable by cutting the SBI crap out.

The nonsensical race swapping of Saga and the one line when she's going schizo where she makes a comment about white people are very clearly sweet baby's meddling as it doesn't really match the tone of the rest of the game.
This line is also in Alan Wake 1 (the second dlc specifically). Alan sees his wife (Impersonated by the Darkplace) calling him a fragile white male or something to that effect. The Darkplace likes to play up the racism it seems. In Saga's defense the out of place 'white man bad' line is one of the last straws that gets her to break the hold the dark place has on her just because the thought is so stupid and out of place. Could have just been one of the last things on the check list of 'things to do before you get out of this scripted area' I happened to do though.
If I had to guess Sweet Baby mostly meddled on the very out of place black couple at the start of the game that witnessed the cult stabbing you investigate at the start. They seemed to be played up to be somewhat notable side characters that could have been more involved then you would think, yet nothing is done with it and you never see them on Saga's side ever again. You see the black male of the group again in the Darkplace Oceanview Hotel on Alan's side, and he was tied to the events in it, but nothing came out of his involvement with the killings there. They also could have pushed Saga to be black despite her being very clearly white in the old Trailers. It's just, in my opinion, the plot seems to have been too perfectly tied to having a black or at the very least a non-scandinavian looking female for the lead with some plot points.
The game starts to make it seem as is Saga is from Brightfalls and lived there with her husband and daughter, which to Saga is absolutely not the case. This is pushed further by there being a family sharing her last name there, Anderson. It also doesn't make sense to us as an audience due to her place as a black women when the Andersons in Bright Falls are very clearly white. For how just completely unbelievable that is, the twist is that Saga really is related to these Andersons and she did live in bright falls with her mother, her mother just left because the Anderson family was racist towards her husband which is implied to be a rather mysterious character on Alan's side of the story who is black. It also kind of explains a bit why Saga can pull off huge leaps in logic for the story that she shouldn't be able to when she's analyzing clues about people, probably some inherited supernatural power her father has.
The ending of the game sucks and I wouldn't buy this game on that alone to be honest, even ignoring current events and pretending Saga isn't black. They went nowhere with the story for all the admitedly good build up it had.

've seen so many people that found out about this suddenly act like they never liked the game in the first place SOLELY for clout online since Sweet baby inc is trending as bad.
AW2 ispecifically wasn't much affected by politics (so much so that back then I said I didn't notice it). The same definitely cannot be said about other games like GoW2 and The Last of Us, where it was obvious politics dictated what the game would be.

I can't speak for others, but for me, in AW2's case the issue is not the game itself (it is pretty good regardless), but the intentions. The news didn't change how I feel about the game, but it did change how I see the developers intentions or morals.

Maybe we should not associate morals with a product, but the fact is that some of us do. There are more games and developers than hours we can waste playing. In that case, I'd rather give my money to others whose value are not necessarily opposed to mine.

Journos have been trying to rewrite history and gaslight everyone into thinking that Alan Wake 2 was successful.
I hope it works. The funniest scenario I can imagine is that these major publishers keep greenlighting projects, giving them even bigger budgets, hiring more diversity consultants, and opening new studios and are just baffled when one day they realize the company is hopelessly insolvent.

This game is terrible and not just because of the obvious pandering and cringe. It's just fucking boring and certain elements like the mind place are just baffling. Who made this? Control was awesome, this some some team b shit. Also Sam Lake is a faggot.

It's blatantly supposed to be a situation like sherlock holmes' "mind palace", a concept that's well known by this point, but called "place" and is an actual supernatural pocket dimension like the dark place.
Still kinda goofy they call it the fucking "mind place"

I'm playing through the game just now as someone who really loved the first back when he played it in highschool, but what I've seen so far is really troubling. Not even the "Alan Woke" complaints, I don't mind that much that you play as someone other than Alan most of the game, but the story that I've seen so far is shit.
So these 2 FBI agents come to a town, stumble upon a murder cult, go to examine a body in the morgue amd the Sheriff disappears and the body reanimates and kills two officers. And after the action is over two deputies come down and you explain that the body came alive and oh yeah the Sheriff vaporized from existence. And they don't seem to find that odd.

Every npc in the town act like complete psychos who loop the weirdest canned mo-cap animations. Banging on random doors in the hotel, random Asian bitch hiding behind a wall, fucking dancing next to an old timey radio. I beat the game btw there is no explanation.

Maybe Alan Wake isn't a popular franchise in the mainstream way of things. Remedy games have always underperformed compared to their competition.
Playing through the first Alan Wake for Halloween. I like the episodic approach with its storytelling. I heard Alan Wake was originally going to be open world, but turned linear due to time constraints. I think that was a sound decision. Each level does have some interactivity with the collectibles and townsfolk to make the small town feel alive.

I wish aiming with the gun did not automatically trigger the flashlight. I understand Alan Wake is not savvy with weapons; that adds to the challenge.

Just finished the Lake House DLC they released on the 22nd, it was actually pretty good! A little buggy, but just things like weird character animations at moments, nothing game-breaking. Good scares and creepiness and some very cool story ideas, and for the most part it's solely Control-focused (which is fine by me as Control is my favorite of the Remedy game series!), I'd highly recommend it for the spooky dooky season!

I did! No idea what’s going on there, hopefully it’s implying a more open world for the sequel! And there is a way to dispatch the paint monsters, it’s just a little cumbersome 😅😅
