I've been a loyal Brave user for a couple of years, but I have problems with the Brave ad system, in that it just stopped giving me ads one day, even after reinstall and ensuring the settings are correct.

Are silver coins still available, and if so, how many do I need to buy per year to contribute the equivalent of one BAT per month?

I don't know a solution to it. It may be that if you use PIA as a Browser extension only and not as a Desktop VPN, the BAT system will still work. I don't know if that's the case.

I am pretty certain the number of ads I received (I’ve chosen 5/hr) greatly diminished whenever I’d have my PIA VPN active. Might be coincidence - not sure.

It is not. I know for sure VPN use will diminish ad returns because of their anti-fraud system. I don't have an alternative suggestion, but if you do use a VPN and can't get BAT, just do something else. Buy a shirt or something.
