TGWTG Allison Pregler / Obscurus Lupa / Movie Nights - The vindictive leader of #ChangeTheChannel, GOTIS personified, vendetta against The Cinema Snob

I wouldn't have known or given a shit about who she was if it weren't for her cameo in Doug Walker's review of The Room. I'm probably not the only one.
The Room review was how I found out about TGWTG and the reviewer community in general - I always watched the reuploads on youtube, and never knew about the site before (I know it was/is across the bottom of the screen in his vids, but I never went to it, just assuming it was his blog or something). I googled "obscurusloopa" (I didn't hear him clearly) and then the young me was down a rabbit hole ...

That's how I got to know her, too.

I also used to watch a lot of Todd back in the day, back when he had that running gag of him thirsting for Lupa's tits (Christ, those CA crossover skits were products of their time to a fucking T). I mean, hey, fantasy is different from reality, after all, so why not make the most of it?

Lupa Owes everything she has to Doug and Michaud shilling her content because they needed more female producers , for someone with mediocre views and subs she got to be a big part on the TGWTG verse and if it wasn't for that she would be back working the fryer or on welfare (besides patreon ) .

I never liked any of Allison's own stuff yet somehow she was one of my favorites on Brad's "Midnight Screenings". They had really natural chemistry and played off each other well. I can't stand the phony "THIS MOVIE MADE ME SO ANGRY!" tantrum shtick but watching people genuinely irritated after a movie trying to deconstruct why really hits the spot for me. Brad & Allison both didn't like "The House" and absolutely hated "Sisters". They get into how both films largely disregarded a script in favor of "line-o-rama" where they endlessly let actors inprov unfunny non-punchline humor.

That "line-o-rama" style didn't bother Allison too much here though. She tries to defend the movie politician-style while Brad starts off the review fairly neutral but looks noticeably more irritated as he recounts the movie's flaws. Here's some quotes from that review:

"Honestly, I thought it was great. I had a good time. I liked it a lot." - Allison
"I thought it was meh." - Brad

"At the end the ghost gets basically killed by being zapped in the balls." - Brad
"That was funny though to me. That they zapped him in the balls. I thought it was funny." - Allison

"I thought the ghosts some of them were genuinely creepy in it." - Allison
"They looked better than they did in the trailer." - Brad
"I liked the look of the ghosts a lot. I liked the big neon look but I like that some of them were creepy." - Allison

"Nothing in this movie creeped me out more than stuff in the first one." - Brad
"Yeah..I mean...it was that sort of feel. It felt a little more dangerous though because people actually died in this one." - Allison

"If you compare the two to be completely honest and I knew it was going to be this way...of course the original one." - Allison
"Yeah, the first one is better." - Brad
"But my feeling is why not both? Little taco girl. Why not both? Because I like both of them, I don't think they're equal by any stretch of the imagination. But I thought this one was fun. I would rewatch it." - Allison
"I wouldn't. I would recommend it as a rental because I laughed enough in it. It was a lot of space between when I did laugh in the movie." - Brad

"I loved seeing them kick ass. That was really important to me. I hate to sound like the like feminist like oh they're a bunch of girls and I like seeing girls doing this stuff but it really is important to me." - Allison

"It's really nice to have a reboot that goes in a different direction because their are lots of references but it follows it's own plot. It doesn't feel like it's just a rehash for the most part." - Allison
"To a point it does cause they really do follow a lot of the same act structure that the first movie did." - Brad
"I felt like it was different enough. It didn't feel like a rehash to me." - Allison
"It did to me. [Brad explains in detail how it roughly follows the same plot beat for beat]" - Brad

"I do love the idea that the villain is the logo which is funny to me." - Allison

"You know what I look forward to? Because I did like this movie. I look forward to them doing a sequel and other things and doing more of their own thing with it." - Allison

"Everyone's always going to think the originals better and that's fine but I think that this is worth opening up a new universe and a new opportunity and I think that this is really great for young girls to be able to have that kind of character to represent you." - Allison

"You know what I look forward to? When they make a sequel cause I think they will. I think it will do well enough to make a sequel." - Allison

"I liked that this was a really colorful movie. Like the costumes were colorful, the ghosts were colorful. I liked the look of the equipment." - Allison

"If you hated the trailers you'll probably hate the movie." - Allison
"I didn't like the trailers and I just kinda thought the movie was meh." - Brad
"The trailer was less than the movie. They let them down a little bit." - Allison
"Yeah. Honestly somebody should probably lose their job over those trailers." - Brad
"But, you know, comedy trailers are really hard to do though. You shouldn't represent the whole movie in a trailer anyways but they do it so often. But it's really hard to convey these things in little bite sized bits to say what this movie is but it definitely was not as good as the movie is." - Allison
The best crossovers she's been in were The Time Machine I Found at a Yard Sale with Linkara and Phalous and the Food Fight crossover with Phalous and Brad Jones

So I don't know much about it, and I didn't see it up there. (I admit I kind of skimmed it all because I'm very familiar with Lupa's antics post-Spoonygate.)
But I heard that before Channel Awesome she was part of something called "Reviewtopia" and she basically did the same thing there. She acted like a total diva bitch to all the guys and burned all her bridges. Not sure if she was fired or she quit.

Reviewtopia was a site for TGWTG rejects like Maniac expression, she used to be a member there along with Apollo, Jackula and Hagan , she did mostly podcasts back then , when she and Apollo jumped ship from there it was because Apollo was working his ass off to enter CA (he worked as staff for one of the anniversary movies) and Lupa managed to enter the site due to the lack of female reviewers.
She was an active member on the community and she was as toxic as she is now, after the break up Apollo spend some time alone depressed as fuck while she started dating Phelan.
what killed the site was its owner (or some guy high up on the management can't remember that part properly ) saying nigger and making a bunch of sex jokes on a stream , which raised hell and Lupa was part of the people outraged because of what he did, after a massive exodus like CTC he just closed the site and just shares the few people who stayed on social media, Allison wasn't a key piece but she was part of the people flinging shit at the owner.

She's briefly discussed here. Also, this has been added to the OP.

Lupa was part of the people outraged because of what he did, after a massive exodus like CTC he just closed the site and just shares the few people who stayed on social media, Allison wasn't a key piece but she was part of the people flinging shit at the owner.
So this isn't the first time she's done something like this. I wonder if she's upset that it didn't turn out that way for CA? She wants to hear Doug say that he quits and shut the site down.

This is all triggering some memories. I remember somebody saying on a forum ages ago that, "Lupa rode the cock carousel" and I didn't quite get it, but it sounds like she kind of used Apollo and Phelan to get where she was. There were a couple other TGWTG personalities that got on there because they were somebody's girlfriend and I didn't think very highly of them. But the signal-to-noise was always pretty bad on that site regardless.

That's exactly why she's upset. I talked about this a couple months ago in the Nostalgia Critic thread. CTC accomplished so much, but because it failed to accomplish exactly 100% of what she wanted she's pissed.

Out of curiosity who is/was the best reviewer associated with CA?All of this behind the scenes drama is interesting but is there any competent reviewer that CA had?I always felt Todd was at least a decent music reviewer whenever he didn't get into rants about social justice. His one hit wonder series is usually good he does do research and to be fair not showing your face means we never had him mugg badly for the camera. Also Brad is generally competent in his reviews of trashy movies from the past.

Dont get your hopes up in her having sex with a man, ever , maybe lesbian granny porn , heres a little something about lupa and heterosexuality
ZLGYCPh.jpg

That seriously looks like some random meme generator shit, but it certainly contributes to the ‘women aren’t funny’ meme.

My veterancy with CA drama mostly focuses on the Chez Apocalypse crowd, due to their involvement with the Autism Holy War and their actions that subsequently drove a massive idelogical rift down the center of the site. However, it led me to a very interesting thing I noticed about Lupa that I'd like to share with you.

For those who aren't familiar with this piece of outright insanity, don't worry - I'll give you the Cliff's Notes version in two parts:

In August of 2014, Dan Olson was added to Channel Awesome. What most aren't aware of is that Lindsay Ellis was a long-time associate and IRL friend of one Zoe Quinn, agreeing wholeheartedly with her politics. That is not something unique to Ellis, either: the entirety of Chez Apocalypse were ideologically aligned with one another. This included Todd in the Shadows, Kyle Oancitizen, and Ellis herself.

When the Zoe Post broke, and Quinn stood accused of having been financially supported by people who covered her work review-wise, Quinn pulled all the goalies and every connection she had to try to get the scandal locked down. Unfortunately for her, she didn't succeed, and a wily Australian faggot got evidence of the cover-up: namely, the Game Journo Pros list, where multiple game journalists were involved with not only working with and financially supporting Quinn when covering her, but actively trying to help her bury the story, to the point where threads covering it were disappearing on Reddit, 4chan, and more. Thus, Gamergate as we knew it began.

When it did brew up, Quinn tapped her most influential friends, and these included her associates at other websites: Bob Chipman and Jim Sterling at The Escapist, and on Channel Awesome, Team Nostalgia Chick. Dan Olson and Kyle fucking immediately demanded every content creator on the site come out and condemn the Gamergate hashtag, because it was harassing this poor defenseless woman Zoe Quinn. The natural response from Channel Awesome's content creators was along the lines of: "Who the fuck is this, and why should we even care?" Dan and Kyle proceeded to state that either you joined them in this stand against evil harassers, or you fucking hated women. Some users, like Brad, saw this and wisely realized nothing good was going to come from these nuts. Others, like Guru Larry, proceeded to tell Dan to go fuck himself. Still others, like Count Jackula and Diamanda Hagan, both saw what was going on and wanted more information, and when neither Kyle nor Dan were particularly forthcoming, bolted down because of the shitstorm they knew was coming.

While this was going on, Todd in the Shadows was being a massive piece of shit:

TOOOOOD.png

At the time, Todd, Kyle, and Dan were in full damage-control mode for Blowey Zoe, skirmishing with GG supporters and declaring gamers to be nothing but harassing scum, because that will win your opponents over. Three days after this brain-turd from Todd, Dan Olson released this fucking thing in which he declares that Gamergate is guilty of terrorism:

Apologies for linking you to Sargon's version as opposed to Dan's own, but Dan's deleted and re-uploaded this one repeatedly to scrub the like/dislike ratios from it and then finally disallowed comments and ratings entirely, and I'd much rather not link to this amoral scumfuck. This was one of exactly three videos Dan did for Channel Awesome over the course of a year and a half, with the rest of his time spent sperging on Twitter against a hashtag and being directly involved with Zoe Quinn's Anti-Harassment taskforce.

The entire time this was going on, Lindsay did the smart thing and basically shut up about GG entirely, using her orbiting ring of Chez Apocalypse contributors to wage a proxy war on her friend's behalf. The team quickly drove a massive ideological rift through Channel Awesome, and while many contributors did the smart thing and kept the fuck out of it, Dan Olson in particular was so bad that Mike Michaud, in a rare outbreak of competence, fucking fired his ass.

Where things get interesting is that while Lindsay Ellis stayed the fuck out of the Autism Holy War directly, she tipped her hand as to how deeply she was involved when she wrote this this fucking thing. If you're not familiar, this is the "Not So Awesome" PDF document Ellis got together with complaints about Channel Awesome, which formed a centerpiece of Lupa's Change the Channel operation. I'm going to read you a passage now, emphasis in orange, from her section, and break down how I know for absolute fucking certain she was directly involved in this:

Lindsay Ellis said:
The breaking point for me came much later. In late 2014, channel awesome brought on some new content producers, several of which I vouched for. One of these was Dan Olson. In December of 2014, Dan did some investigative journalism work which resulted in him becoming the target of organized harassment and conspiracy theorists. Dan posted an article on medium about 8-chan’s willful complicity in child pornography. This resulted in a organized campaign to defame Dan Olson, declaring him a child pornographer for doing journalistic work about child pornography. The conspiracy theorists continue to this day.

This happened right before Christmas, on December 23, 2014
. I was driving home to visit my family in Tennessee. I was about two hours from the Virginia/Tennessee border when I get a call from Mike Michaud, who was absolutely livid about something Dan Olson has done. Predictably, these organized harassment brigades started a campaign emailing Mike Michaud. Rather than seeing it for what it was, Michaud blamed the victim. And instead of calling Dan to find out what happened, Michaud called ME while I was in the car driving home to visit my family for Christmas, because in Michaud’s mind, I was apparently Dan’s keeper for having vouched for him when Channel Awesome was picking up new talent.

This was not the first time that one or several producers was being targeted by harassment campaigns, and Channel Awesome never stood up for anyone (unless it was directly related to them being demonetized #WTFU). They stood silent during the gamergate, they stayed silent while many of their female contributors over the years were targeted by gamergate. Their business model implies that it is more important for them to be uncontroversial than it is for them to stand behind their contributors who are being targeted. To be clear, Dan did nothing wrong, but was blamed by Michaud (and by extension, so was I) for attracting “controversy” from people who are somehow threatened by outing websites that enable child pornographers.

Let's get right into this shit, because hoo boy. Just wording this shit the way she has, Ellis has basically signaled her knowing about it, because, contrary to Lindsay's assertions, Danny wasn't involved in "investigative journalism," it was an outright hit-piece and he got caught when he was setting it up. Observant Kiwis will notice that Lindsay didn't link the actual blog post Dan put up. There's several reasons for this, one of which being it makes Dan look worse than 8chan (and I'll get to that), but the bigger reason is that he got caught setting this up, and unfortunately for Lindsay and Dan alike, we have real-time logs of what Danny Boy was up to during this, courtesy of the Crash Override Network Log Leaks.

And what Dan was up to was a fucking doozy: Dan was part of an operation to demonetize 8chan alongside infamous Lolcow Laurelai Bailey. The plan called for Laurelai to set up a honeypot board (/hebe/) on 8chan to lure in people posting Child Porn for Dan to "find," and ergo they could use that as part of an attempt to get 8chan's funding pulled. Dan then proceeded to post this content on his website. More canny Kiwis may have seen the problem with this plan immediately, namely that it involved Dan downloading Child Porn and posting it on his own website, and things only snowballed for him from there because Laurelai being involved meant ED was keeping an eye on things, and when they tipped off GGers about it, Dan got caught. But there was more, too: Dan also got caught helping to cover up the actions of self-admitted pedophile, Sarah Nyberg. And yes, those too are in the CON Logs.

You'll note, in the above, that she specifies complaints about Olson as coming from "targeted harassment brigades." It's not until the last paragraph that she comes flat-out and blames Gamergate for it. But more importantly, you'll notice a claim made with no support whatsoever: that there was at least one female content creator, on Channel Awesome, who was harassed by GG. Yet she has provided literally no evidence of this, and even cursory examination of CA Twitters shows that the only CA affiliates even involved with the controversy were Ellis' speds in the fucking first place.

All right, so you have all the above Autism, which establishes that Lindsay was involved with bringing one little chunk of the Autism Holy War to Channel Awesome's doorstep in an effort to protect a friend of hers, then having her buddies proceed to blow the thing into a raging weal of idiocy that lasted for almost a year on CA alone, until Dan Olson got fired and Lindsay and Kyle ragequit.

S0 how does Lupa connect to Ellis and company? Well, that's the interesting part: She doesn't. Lupa was never involved with GG. Ever. But there's a reason I brought that massive text-block up, and it's for more reasons than to establish the sorts of people Lupa was choosing to back in this Autistic crusade of hers: It's to establish something about her mindset, and drive home something else in the process. Lupa has by far the most content in the Not So Awesome document at over 17 pages. She uses as much real estate as MarzGurl, Linkara, Suede, and Admin combined. The bulk of her claims, however, are ones like these:

Lupa said:
On two separate occasions, women were confronted angrily by either Mike Ellis or Mike Michaud being blamed for something a guy they knew did. One of those instances resulted in the producer leaving (See Lindsay Ellis section).

Lupa said:
Years later, Phelan is astounded to find out this list exists, because no one who came onto the site before me got these rules or were told about them.

Lupa said:
Blistered Thumbs producers were never told the site was shutting down. They found out when they saw the announcement on the front page. Several producers were let go without being informed.

Basically, a lot of Lupa's entries are other people's shit, with several involving Phelous (who left CA years before this document and isn't in the document), and Blistered Thumbs (which ended in fucking January 2014, with the only member of Blistered Thumbs who actually appears in the document is fucking Benzaie), and so on.

She also spends about a page regarding Spoony, who also doesn't appear in the document. I'll just let that speak for itself.

Some of Lupa's claims either are completely unsourced/unverifiable, and, most of the time, possess no evidence whatsoever. Others are shit so petty that it borders on parodic (THEY SPELLED PHELOUS' LAST NAME WRONG YOU GUYS). While the whole document has a complete lack of citations in general, with a lot of the evidence being pretty middling (when they even bother to provide it, Lupa comes across openly as having an agenda here, with only JesuOtaku (who openly admits to being part of this because she wants to see Mike and Doug suffer), and Lindsay Ellis being more blatant about it. Several content creators in this doc do bring up legit issues (Linkara most notably), but there's one last part that drives this whole thing home and makes it that much uglier.

One of the re-occurring themes in the Not So Awesome document was allegations of sexual harassment and assault that Channel Awesome's staff did nothing about. Lupa's the first one to bring it up:

Lupa said:
More details in Sean and Holly’s sections, but CA was aware of sexual harassment from Mike Ellis for at least two years and did nothing. When he was finally let go it was for other legal reasons. They were also aware of a prominent producer who was grooming female fans and coercing them into sex and failed to take action for years.

Funny thing that: MarzGurl isn't quoted in the document bringing this up.

And I know why. See, that producer's identity was something of an open secret, or so Dan Olson claimed. And on August of 2018, on Something Awful, Dan Olson let slip who that Producer was:

Dan_Olson_Knew_About_Sex_Offender.png

Now there's a lot to Dan's claim here that is clearly bullshit. JewWario killed himself in February of 2013, over a year before GG ever happened. But Dan implies that the entirety of Chez Apocalypse knew about this, and, more importantly, were willing to stay silent over it if it meant getting a win in on a political movement they happened to not like.

So was Dan talking out his ass?
No. Marzgurl apparently repeatedly brought it up to Lupa over a month before Not So Awesome went up and Lupa ignored it.

I take back what I said when I said Lupa was simply an asshole drama-causer: She's a shameless opportunist who will cheerfully latch onto any cause and abuse the shit out of it for her own ends. The more I read about her "activism" online, the more I become convinced she's naught but a poseur, in it solely so she can try to cynically exploit it later.

The more I read about her "activism" online, the more I become convinced she's naught but a poseur, in it solely so she can try to cynically exploit it later.

Man, reading some of your posts about the whole CA circle of speds really answers a lot of my own personal questions.

Namely, why did everyone seem like they were fucking crazy? Because they were.

CTC had good things come about from it, but it is now glaringly obvious that Allison's intentions were far from pure

She more than likely held a massive grudge against Doug, Rob and Michaud ever since the firing. I could easily imagine her stewing late at night over how they wronged her. She was so excited for the day she could get them back, waiting for the opportunity to make her move.

When that fan asked her that question on Twitter, she finally saw the opportunity she so desperately wanted.
