What a way to respect the original comics...

What a way to respect the original comics...
Having read the comics briefly before season 1 was announced I hoped the approach would be same basic structure but written better. It's a shame to see that it's instead used for self flagellation because as low as my opinion is of the comic, Kirkman should have instead been proud of what he had accomplished during that time. To go "no I don't like it because the current year deems it that not enough darkies are around" is just fucking retarded and it feels like an even bigger insult that the guy who originally worked on the comic thinks this way.

It really isn't as good as often marketed. It's a very commendable effort and it's nice to see another supes comic that goes from issue #1 to issue #150 and feels like part of the same story because no one switched writers midway through but it's a very poorly drawn mess that barely conveys its message.

  • Keeping in line with my comment about the comic's art, the animation is really bad. Lots of very obvious 3d CG, lots of animation shortcuts being taken, the big effort they put in was in some of the fighting scenes and in that I think there ought to be some credit but overall it's really lacking visually. The Atom Eve episode seems to fix this.
  • Lots of money seems to be wasted on nothing. Celebrity voice acting that feels like the height of vanity(look at the show's wikipedia page and just scroll down, I guarantee you'll go "wait, HE was in this?"(I didn't even notice the autotuned mobster was voiced by Michael Weston until later). Licensed music that just cuts out abruptly.
  • Besides the Mauler Twins getting more screen time I have no positive things to say about any of the changes done to any of the characters in the show.

I'm going to go through some plot points by character from memory just so anyone still on the fence can figure out whether to check out or not, I think I'm going to check out without watching season 2 because Angstrom Levy Yakub's plot is dumb and I guarentee it's only in just so Kirkman can have his super epic cameo and I doubt a third season is feasible at this point.
  • Omni Man:
    • His contact with human pussy actually changes him to be a "good guy".
    • He eventually sires a second child from an alien bug planet who ages rapidly with the intent of sacrificing that planet to the empire instead. Omniman believes the plan will fail because his child will die in 5000 years instead of 10000. The empire razes the planet and captures Omniman.
      • The plot point with his son being a viltrumite reject goes nowhere and later in the comic the second son goes in as a triple agent for the coalition against thragg by fake allying with thragg and feeding him info.
    • He escapes captivity and later returns to earth for a tearful reunion with his family(yes really) but Cecil tells him to fuck off of Earth because no one will want him back ever so he shacks up with Invincible's mom on the moon and then later on an alien planet.
      • A running gag is that he and invincible's mom have sex nearly constantly after this happens.
    • He's revealed to be the long lost child of the previous viltrumite emperor and takes over after an internal coup that he is barely involved in
      • The chain of events are literally: Bad guy watches Nolan flirting with his human wife-> gets mad-> fights->mid fight goes "I can't believe you're emperor pornstache's great great grandson"->other viltrumites are in earshot and go MUH KANG and then the viltrumites are good now.
    • Eventually dies to bad guy in a end of series fight involving everyone on the planet vs an entire army of 14 year old viltrumites half bugs sired by Bad Guy

  • Robot/Monster Girl
    • To my recollection Robot was less muh dick in wanting to go to Phase 2. I think he chose Rex because Rex was genetically enhanced.
    • Robot eventually reverses Monster Girl's aging. Next time we see her there's a timeskip and she's fully matured.
    • The fast aging aliens come back in for another invasion
    • Robot and Monster Girl get transported to their dimension
    • Spend a decade waging a war against their nobility in which they win
    • Eventually fall in love
    • Spend more decades ruling over the empire
    • Monster Girl bitches out eventually because reasons I don't remember
      • falls in love with an alien girl
      • transforms into the (male) monster and bangs the alien girl. The offspring eventually shows up as a villain.
      • Betrays Robot and plots to overthrow him
      • Eventually succeeds and then fails later when she realizes her mistake
      • Some other shit happens and they're back as rulers but Robot can't stand her
    • They go back to Earth
    • Robot's sick of this shit so he plots behind the scenes to take over everything
    • Takes over everything after killing Cecil and a few heroes who don't want the regime change
    • Changes(according to Mark's friend) everything for the better, no crime, better working conditions, more tech, etc etc
    • Mark(Invincible) literally seethes and rages because "you can't do that" but he knows the entire planet will be against him so he fucks off with Eve to another planet
      • I should mention Robot at this point has a massive robot army made out of a special alloy that hurts Viltrumites if they strike it which renders the plot point of an upcoming earth invasion pointless
    • Eventually in the big fight Robot helps out but also takes the children of the now good Viltrumites hostage and tells them to fuck off after the fight is over
    • There's a second big fight(this is two issues from the end of the series by the way) against Robot
    • Robot loses, Invincible in his grand benevolence puts his brain in a jar so that he can coordinate heroes against the now rising crime waves and puts Immortal(who in a previous plot point was shown in a far future to have gone mad with power because he can't die and everyone else can) in charge as his physical counterpart.

  • Misc
    • Invincible gets raped by a female viltrumite at some point. I guarantee you Kirkman/Rogen will have big changes to this point if they ever get to it because the female was(or so the internet claims) kind of hot and at that point Atom Eve(Invincible's girlfriend and later wife) was pulling a show Amber.
    • Some guy pulls in all of his multiverse counterparts and after some fuckery caused directly by him, they all merge into one superbeing that looks like Yakub. This is the gateway to the multiverse faggotry season 2 will focus on.
      • This involves a Marvel comic where Invincible teams up with the Spider-Man of all things. Judging by the voice cast of season 2's trailer this might be animated.
    • Invincible teams up with an eco terrorist supergenius dino at some point when he goes "fuck punching bad guys, we could be doing so much more" after the latter turned Las Vegas into a literal desert(which eventually is used as a big mirror to power some solar array for loads of energy in favor of some dumb "look, 9/11 can actually lead to some good things once we've buried everyone!" plot point.
      • Eventually this backfires and the majority of the earth is flooded and decimated because ice caps and bombs or something.
        • The next issue this is literally resolved instantly by Robot and his regime. They gloss over it by going "oh but a few million people died"
    • Sunspot aka Invincible Forma Negro is a black guy who absorbs solar rays to be Superman lite. While Invincible is off doing whatever in space Eve contacts him to fill in as Invincible because they were running a super hero business where Invincible was the sole guy on the roster. This goes in a different direction than they expect
      • Dude had a twin brother who was a mad scientist obsessed with superpowers. He tries his ray on the now surviving brother thinking it'll kill him, but the evil twin dies and the survivor has superpowers.
      • His parents loathed the guy but loved his (evil) twin. The guy decides to dress up as his brother when in vicinity of his parents and claims the superhero persona is actually is twin.
      • Eventually all this comes out in a family meeting. The father goes "sheeit nigger the wrong twin died why are you an art fag and marrying a black hoe" and said black hoe accidentally kills both parents with an iron(the thing you use to iron your clothes, I have no idea what the correct english word for it is)
      • They secretly bury the parents and this plotline with it because it and the guy never come up again.
      • This guy is in the season 2 poster so I thought it would be worth mentioning
    • Rex dies at some point fighting some jobbers with the rest of the guys and Robot decides to adopt his name in honor.
    • The doc siesmic old man falls into a volcano or some shit, becomes a gigaswole lava dude complete with hot lava gf and an army of really powerful guys.
    • The big endgame fight against the bad viltrumite emperor ends with a slugging match on the sun. It sounds cool but you're really watching two indistinguishable figures whose hair and clothing has burned off punching each other while a really gay "you're going to lose because we have the power of human friendship!" monologue is playing.
    • In the most infuriating what the actual fuck are you doing ending to the comic
      • Invincible is now the viltrumite emperor who are now a force for good™
      • They go to planets and make them good™ by shitting all over their traditions if Invincible deems it not good™
      • He and Atom Eve's child become the viltrumite champion and there's a load of timeskips where it shows he was struggling to raise her before she eventually joins the Coalition of making things Good™
      • Atom Eve is also practically immortal now because of her mental block shit making her revert herself to young woman every time she ages till death.
      • Invincible's rape baby becomes THE hero on earth.

I feel there's more dumb shit I blocked out. Apologies for the wall of text.
tl;dr read AstroCity/Top 10 instead

I hate the self flagellation so much. You can't just say "times have changed", you have to say that it's "dumb white guys" and insult others because we know those smart niggers created so much there's a ton of adaptions of their works.

The entire argument itself is retarded on multiple points. First, the comic is a dark take on classic comics so having everyone the same race as those classic comics is completely justified. Second, there is ton of diversity in the characters (with aliens, monsters and demons),the issue is that modern "diversity" just means niggers.

I swear, if aliens discover humanity through our media they'd think that in 2008 half of us turned into negroids by some supervillain.

Something tells me all the woke shit we saw in season one is going to get a lot more prevalent in season two...

Also

We would have Filipino fans come up and say, "I'm so excite you made Mark Filipino,' we would have Mexican fans come up and say "I'm so excited you made Mark Mexican".

Yeah, sure

So the first episode is on the highseas. I guess noone is watching this huh?
It seems to be a pretty decent start for the source material it's based on, but as with where the comic was at this point in the story they're incorporating shitty multiverse stuff. It's hard to get any gold from that at this point.

Why the fuck did everythign start doing multiverse shit? I'm tired of it

The comic was actually pretty early to it, somewhere between 02 - 07. It wasn't the first to the concept of course but it was still 'fresh'. Even considering that I don't think the comic did it well, everything good S1 of Invincible did the comic fumbled through. It's one of the few cases I think an adaptation has really, truly improved things besides the pointless raceswapping/making his friend gay. The show's fucking up by using this plotline as is, there's some modification to it but there's plenty of other stupid shit the comics do post where S1 of the show ends and I didn't even read it much further because it gets *so bad*.

I've been reading it on a pirate site recently and it's not too surprising that he went full cuck with the show because a lot of things about the comic already leaned in that direction even if they're tame by today's standards. The viltrumites are basically a hamfisted metaphor for European colonialism and le nazis, Eve's dad is a caricature of a boomer misogynist, half of the plot revolves around Mark being emasculated or punished in one way or another whenever he tries to be decisive in any way or feels like he's getting a handle on things, etc. It's not as egregious as more actively woke relics of the 90s like Neil Gaiman's Sandman, but you can tell he was trying to show off how progressive/forward thinking he thought he was being for a crusty manchild comic book dork.

I really liked seeing that Evil Mark. Maybe it's the side in me that enjoys fanfiction a lot, but it was great. Still Mark but far more brutal. Even kept Eve around as a pet, just like his dad probably is with Debby.
God I hope Invincible War happens this season. If not that, the next comes earlier to make up for the two fucking years of wait.

Endgame really popularized it to the normies. Arguably, Rick and Morty added fuel to the fire. It was already milked to death in the comic scene before it ever hit the big screen. The council of Ricks was a parody or outright stolen from the council of Reed Richards. Angstrom's story is a play on it.

It wasn't nearly that bad. Besides, Viltrumites are the most powerful species in their galaxy. The ending was more or less what the empire originally had in mind except way less brutal. Benevolent colonialism you might say.

I know it doesn't seem bad in light of what's going on nowadays but the weasely little nerds who wrote comics like this 20 years ago are some of the shrillest PC faggots around nowadays and there's a clear progression from sprinkling in hints of this stuff back then to them obsessively spewing it out in every waking moment now. A lot of what the book tries to cope with in its retarded little way is the "price" of "progress" and it's not too hard to see how a guy like Kirkman would define such a thing even at the time.

making his friend gay.
well his friend does actually end up being gay later in the comic but since he was the tryhard dude always taking about hot babes and calling Mark gay it's played off as a joke.

I liked the first season well enough. It had some cool world building but the animation quality wasn't great and they were forcing some diversity in in parts. One thing people don't bring up is that Shrinking Ray in the comic is a guy and in the show is a girl but it's a very minor character. Just another heron on the roster with no plot relevance.

I meant to read through the comic sooner but with the big gap between seasons I just got around to it. It definitely has some weak parts and
Mark goes through the same moral crisis like five times on whether he should be judge, jury and executioner and if he does the right thing of locking villains up does that make him responsible for the crimes they commit later.

Anyway, cautiously optimistic for season 2. Mainly just curious how much they're going to cover in it and at what plot point they leave off with how much they're looking to mash together and condense.
