Amazon's Invincible - thoughts?

The biggest problem with this show is that its 1 hour per episode and more than half of it is just superfluous. Its been the problem since the beginning other than the animation being total dogshit.

Kirkman is the sort of writer to give his main character an instant kill attack that he forgets about instantly for no reason.
There was a page in the Preacher comic where this exact thing happened and was addressed and was funny. I don't think there's any way to fit that into the tone established for Invincible.
Liked the season overall, but the cracks are beginning to show and the Hell episode dragged down the quality a fair bit.
I liked "80's Guy" Satan.
Le ebbin PTSD hallucinations were so fucking annoying, and a waste of everyone's time.
The show is absolutely targeting the under-21 crowd and as such has many skippable portions that are only enjoyable to teenagers. It's like trying to rewatch Evangelion.

Mostly I feel like Milhouse going "when are they gonna get to the Thragg vs. Battle Beast???", which is because I have a low IQ, but some of you could do with a rewatch of the MST3K theme song.

The voice actors did the best they could
I still can't believe they just let Walton Goggins learn to voice act from 0 to competent on the final recorded tracks for the show. He's unlistenable until season 3 and they gave him the best character in the whole series.
Gary Anthony Williams, as we all know, used up all of his talent voicing Uncle Ruckus and is now completely useless, so can't really be blamed for what should be common knowledge to all showrunners in the world.
the crowd going "hear me out" when they see anissa:
Anissa was always my favourite and based on the face they give her when Mark says he killed Conquest in the show, they are going to be keeping her original storyline.
One thing I have to give the writers credit for is believably writing how female Viltrumites might behave, not having the physical differences that real men and women have. Thula is a lawful good/schoolteacher moralist, Anissa's a jihadist, and even Nolan's mom in her 2 minutes of screentime is shown to have a distinct personality (of the "you be doctor!!!" type, but still). Too bad Kirkman couldn't manage this with the human woman characters.

I got bored and decided to google if PTSD can actually cause hallucinations. Turns out: It can! Got the message after the first couple instances, though.

Been watching this show for laughs with a couple friends mystery science theater style, It's funny because it turns from laughter to genuine autistic rage real quick with all the retarded shit that happens in the show then I remember it's from a comic series and every comic series in existence often have the most pants on head retarded sequence of events for their stories, it's the shortbus of the writing medium.

Also Seth Rogen voicing a character is incredibly irksome.

You're not an 18 year old boy who gets everything uber'd to his bedroom. There's a lowest common denominator educational requirement...thing going on with the writing that clearly isn't intended for mature audiences.
consider the following: this is a cartoon with aliens and superheroes being real. who fuckin cares unless youre really antsy and particular about it
Exactly. The point wasn't that there's no God, it's that in Invincible-world there's no Hell either. It's just a big underground cave and "demons" are just lizard people, and Satan is the king of the lizard cave people, and they live in a really scary-looking place. Then, one of the lizard cavemen gives Mark Dr. House's speech about how real life isn't just a test.
This is because Mark is a young boy struggling with his simple young boy concept of black-and-white right-or-wrong, and this storyline needs him to accept that sometimes to win a war you might have to kill a guy. God and The Devil may still exist in Invincible-land, but they don't exist in caverns under the earth or on clouds up in the sky. Pretty bland stuff unless you're that angry video-game hating Jesus guy from the 2000s.
Also Seth Rogen voicing a character is incredibly irksome.
I find his delivery to be proficiently naturalistic, but some of the lines he clearly wrote himself are lame and dated as fuck.

how the fuck is mark more shell shocked than the literal 15 year old girl who couldn't do shit?
That I definitely agree with. What has Tech Jacket dealt with that's more intense than the fucking Viltrumite War?

Have to wonder if it's got anything to do with people watching while on their phones. The more it's shown, the easier it is for the casual viewer to understand.

The real Tech Jacket 1v1'd the entire Kresh war, but it was a cakewalk because muh human physiology somehow makes the Tech Jacket 100x more powerful.

Really, it should've hit harder when everything she did was useless against these guys, who were the Kresh's masters. The Viltrumites only really used the Kresh as a proxy because it'd just taken more than one to exterminate them all. Instead, she is somehow better than Mark and Nolan. Hell, throw Allen in too. It's ridiculous.

I'm still stoked to see motorcycle mama Kregg become top slut of all the embedded Viltrumites and show us how the power of pussy can turn monsters into humans.

Positives:
- Thragg's voice actor is less grating. He's started to emote more, with the range of his voice being more subtly menancing than his previous appearances. And, he's less retarded now & actually compromises!
- Allen and Talia are still cool
- No Oliver to bitch slap -> he will learn nothing
- Cecil actually stands his ground & acts like a guy who gaf about Earth. Disappointed he wasted all that money on getting Monster Girl &
- No rap bs. I hope they learned their lesson from the D4VID results.
- Debbie and Nolan still don't get together! This is great news (Mark)! Debbie telling him to get out of her way & not cowing to his forcefulness is well-needed. They'll likely get back together around the time/before the Viltrumites jump Thragg in Season V.
- Kregg the super slut already getting BUSY!!

Neutral:
- Paul & Debbie breaking up off-screen. I knew it was inevitable, but man. I really liked Paul. The trend of successful women loving abusive men need to be studied.

Negative:
- All the schizoPTSD fakeout scenes where starting to piss me off. Like, I get it. This is capeshit gorefest, but after the first few and seeing Mark's stupid fucking 😮☹️ expression after every one, it just got annoying. I honestly hate constantly depressed & miserable show Mark. Nothing is fun or funny anymore when he's around. I disagree that season I was all that melodramatic. It had various fun & light moments. Ever since season II, it's been "woe is me" the show. Certain characters (ex Conquest, Rex, and MacchineHead) were there to keep shit exciting, but now they're gone or pushed out of the plot.

- Still hate William's New VA so so much, I would have rather had Amber. Good god, this fucking guy. How do you forget your boyfriend's PTSD? Or why are you surprised your supposed "best friend" is struggling? Any scene with him is tedious. I'm glad he has less and less presence as the show goes on.

- Eve engages in the suburban white girl canon events of getting fat & killing her child.
  • All this yap about loneliness and fear, when Debbie, the GDA, William & Rick (maybe even Amber), etc would be there for her. Also, you were able to tolerate your parents enough to live & eat with them, I'm sure they'd be there, too!
  • How does this even happen? I get that Debbie was pregnant w/Mark & didn't die, but I guess that confirms baby Viltrumites pop out the womb powerless until some arbitrary age. Why not use science to extract the baby and put them in a test tube to grow instead of an abortion?
  • Mark blaming himself for everything is getting annoying. I get he wants to support her because she clearly wasn't 100% for it, but are we serious? You had no choice, she did! Then, the slight pushback he has, he crumples on! He doesn't have to hate her, but could the writers not give us more than two scenes and then fucking for him to get over it!
  • All she had to do was go 9 months & then she'd get her laser beams back. PLUS, if she had told him, Mark would have been more determined than ever to come back alive because he'd have even more on the line!
  • In fact, why even have this useless subplot? What is it for? What does it do if there is no conflict to it? To post about how progressive you are? We could already tell, Cuckman! It serves no purpose, holds no point, and wasted precious screentime! Pathetic.
- Sooooo ... no mention of Conquest, at all? The guy Cecil let literally rearrange Mark's guts on a foreign planet & almost kill him & his brother TWICE? The only Viltrumite to readily admit he's hurting under the empire, too? The second strongest to Thragg? He's dead so there is no consequence for Cecil, at all. And no new weapons to combat Viltrumites, either? Of course.

- Slideshow animation is still present even during serious confrontations & heavy events. The flying/floating is just closing in on a png, character models still go off point, and the closeup sgots are still not up to the first season. In fact, I think the review of season 1 jinxed us all.

To put it bluntly, this season was not worth the wait. Between the shit-tier animation, the more retarded plot, and the neverending Celeb VAs, this shit is not getting better. Kirkman is barely changing anything, with most of his new choices being lamer or done better in the comic or abandoned before it has any effect on the plot. Yet, he really expects people to wait 1-2 years for his slopfest show when this season is the best the comic gets!

All there is going forward is:
- The confrontation with the Mark variants (for those who remember)
- Rape scene (for the gross gooners)
- Battle Beast v Thragg (for the based)
- The End of All Wars (finally, over at last)

Everything else is filler, fakeout deaths, or building up to the cop-out ending. Ugh.

This will be in the next couple of years. Let's see if the fans don't grow out of it (like many did with the Boys) or something new & cool doesn't take all the attention.

It's amazing how they made Thaedus into more of a lunatic than the comics.

Nigger basically said, "I lied to Nolan, now poison him and his kids and everyone on Earth."

First episode has Homelander assassinate a politician.
Is that how the comics start? Black Summer starts like that, and it came out after The Boys started. Was Warren Ellis always trying to take over Wildstorm? Do all these guys just write all the same shit into all their jobs? Why do I ask questions I already know the answer to?
Ellis is a fart huffer but his finished works are still a party. Just read Black Summer. And No Hero instead of Invincible, if you want. Both series take way less time to finish which is great if you have a job.

ETA - the reason for shitty-looking Dinosaurus, nothing-looking coalition space armour, and boring superhero suits is most likely too many women on storyboard.
If you want more women on your cartoon show, but also want cool-looking space suits, you have to pull from the god-tier autismo pool of the 2% of women who are carpenters/truck drivers/crazy Russian tabletop gamers, and be prepared to order them around because they don't speak focus group. They speak cool spaceship drawing.
Tragically, most of these women have their current career after burning out trying to work with normie woman bosses in Big Art, and have autistically sworn never to go back.

i think it says a lot about this show that the only thing i hear people talking about is how much they're anticipating the rape scene
