I like the show, it's not insulting. But like are they just proving that omni-man was right?
You probably don't want to think too hard about this. If Omni-Man had told the truth on day one, it would've been in-character for Cecil to take his side. He wouldn't turn down the cure for cancer and the end to all war and risk the entire human race getting genocided for the sake of his principles. The idea is supposed to be that earthlings would rather die fighting than live in paradise as a conquered race... but they're already ruled over by a shady, unaccountable power that believes the ends justify the means: Cecil/the GDA.
The show/comic navigates around this (sort of) by portraying the viltrumites as pointlessly sadistic psychopaths who go around speechifying about FOOLISH WEAKLINGS and throwing puppies into the sun, even though they could probably get whatever they want by asking nicely. Even in the comics, iirc, I don't think we're ever shown a planet that they've fully conquered, reaping the benefits of empire membership -- they're all apocalyptic warzones with ragtag resistance fighters getting their heads exploded. Apparently NOBODY just takes the deal. For the plot to make sense, you kind of have to assume that Omni-Man was being euphemistic when he explained the situation to Mark, and the viltrumites turn planets into giant North Koreas with no crime and a very long life expectancy but fairly shitty quality of life. Why? Who knows. Not sure what they even need human slave labor for. Seems like an ego thing.
the Maulers DID capture the entire team of Astar heroes,
Another thing you'll want to ignore is that the Maulers apparently built a ray gun that's better than anything Cecil has, anything Robot can build, and anything Angstrom could find in any alternate universe. One of those put Mark on his ass, surely a few of them would have helped with Omni-Man? A lot better than that satellite beam, anyhow. The New Guardians get solo'd by random losers who spare them out of pity every other week, fucking humiliating. The OGs at least put the guy who murdered them in a coma. No wonder Immortal is so grouchy, he remembers what it was like to have competent coworkers.
Also, this might be schizo autism, but the gun reminded me of the one Lex Luthor used to take down the Justice Lords in the old JL cartoon. It looks kinda similar, shoots a yellow beam, and supposedly does something to the nervous system (this is the handwave of how it somehow depowers every type of superpower). And it is also plot-powered so they can't just dodge the beam, derp.
It's tragic really, I liked Immortal up until he started antagonizing Mark and Kate's hot so you know. But also he's kinda justified in hating Mark? It's weird. From the outside in he's unreasonable, but from his perspective and Cecil's this is pretty black and white.
Guy doesn't whine about having to work with the son of the dude who murdered all of his friends, doesn't get butthurt that the new guy has all of his powers but better, didn't even want to take a day off after dying. Just shows up for work and does his job, figures maybe he should keep an eye on Mark. Wouldn't have had a melty if he found out that Cecil had some anti-Immortal countermeasures either. He apparently got along with Omni-Man better than Mark. At least that guy's a professional.
