He really isn't. It's almost impossible to find someone willing to operate on 500+ pound people due to the risks involved with anesthesia

What’s Dr Now’s success rate with the surgery even? Obviously they wouldn’t show an episode of 600 Pound Life where the patient dies at the end from it (...right?) but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a failure from him despite how dangerous it is

Does anyone know what Amber's heritage is? I'm actually interested to see where her roots are from.

She's a regular Heinz 57 but she constantly claims to be an exotic Portuguese woman like her mother.

There was an episode like 2 weeks ago where the patient died.

I think it says at the beginning that the success rate is something like 5% for these super morbidly obese patients after 5 years.

Actually, one of the episodes of this season features a patient that dies mid-filming.. it was really tragic because he was actually on point with weight loss

THIS is the type of descriptive writing #goalz Amberlynn should strive toward.

Awww. That's a really nice thing to say. Thank you. Gone all pink n shuffly.

I DO like it here. Truly, I have found my people. Funny as fuck, no boundaries and you can all spell.

Is Kiwi Farms actually heaven? Ooooooooooo.....

This is a bit OT, but it's pertinent (I think?) If it's annoying let me know and I'll delete.

I've often wondered about that, cos the long term success of gastric surgery on SMO is notoriously low, and very dangerous as these patients are not only fucked, but malnourished (amazingly) so have no resources to see them through.

But, apart from Robert Buchal who died during filming 600lbLife patients have a much higher success rate. And I think it's likely down to choice. The programme will do extensive interviews before they even start so an entire team chooses who will be most appropriate, and they likely provide extensive aftercare, psych help etc etc. whereas a lot of patients are obviously low income and if they have insurance at all, it will only be for the most basic care. 600lb Life is "real" but only in terms of how real telly ever gets. A series of fails would not really be the message US TV tends to stick to - we want them to succeed even if we don't like them, so the programme chooses the best candidates.

Everyone will be saying "what about Steven Assanti" but I think he was accepted because he was already known through being featured on the news - he was a real lost cause with nowhere to go, and look at the hell he raised. Somebody in AL's comments said the show would take her because of her uchoob notoriety, but I doubt a piddling 60k channel would even be a consideration. I think she'd be weeded out early because of her utter denial and refusal of reality and, of course, her "job" would be in jeopardy because no way could she do 600lb Life and just put the usual banal shit on her vlogs, but the people are contracted to the show and can't talk about it outside that show.

Dunno. It's an interesting one, would she be accepted?

Edited for today I cannot English.

Frankly, if she can manipulate well enough to make them think she'll try, I don't see why they wouldn't take her. They took Penny Saeger. Considered probably one of THE most controversial patients on the show (not sure about the new season, but she'd be hard to top). Noted on that link, second video states she is 494 pounds in that video.

Penny has been the only real fail though, if I remember rightly? Even Pauline, who was a NIGHTMARE, eventually got on board, whining all the way.

Penny was also much smarter than Amber, who really only succeeds at lowest-level manipulation (a really telling moment in Penny's episode was when she was whispering to her kid about the dietician "throwing away his cereal." That is subtle, high level manipulation, albeit unconscious. Later, she diverted the attention to OCD-level couponing and totally diverted everybody.)

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't know whether psychologists would weed out Amber, especially with so much material available. They'd just need to watch her vids. I guess we never see the ones they turn down, but every single SMO person has learned to get what they want through manipulation, so there must be something that weeds out the ones that are accepted.

Ps. We all know Amber's channel relies on her being huge, and the first thing a therapist would do is encourage her to stop YT. So she'd also have to chose between really wanting to succeed and her "uchoob career." Don't think any of us would put money on her making the right choice for once...

I can’t imagine that there is a ton of 500+ pound people and those who want to be on tv or are actually ready and willing to commit to the program makes it even less. I don’t think they have a very big pool to choose from. I don’t think that Amber actually wants to change yet. She’s healthy after all.

Not only that, but from the (probably) small group of people over 500lb, there are only so many who are still healthy enough to go through the procedure and live.

It's not that hard to weed out people for this show. Human bodies weren't designed to be 500+ pounds. A simple medical exam most likely does a good job of weeding out a bunch of people who would like to be in the show.

Liability is a very scary word.

I was still wondering about this because I have a hard time with the idea that anyone who escapes the orbit would willingly go back. But they're all yucking it up on FB. Ridiculous.

If I understand that screen cap, Amber is tagging them, right?
That only shows her making a :optimistic:goodwill gesture. :optimistic:Hopefully Rafe will ignore it.
