This applies to the current ankle situation type deal: one of my kids sprained an ankle last year, and the ER referred my kid to an orthopedist. My kid was on crutches until that appointment, then got a boot. Of course, we have primary physicians and health insurance, but yeah. Follow up was on us.

You just know ALR is going to do fuck all: no follow up, no specialist, no PT. And then wonder how she got bed bound.

Yes she can still get a custom boot or get a scooter that fits if she ever bothered to treat any of her medical problems, but she doesn't. It's ER then back home. If the ER doesn't have customized fat boots, then she just "can't wear one", because she will not be bothered to actually see a podiatrist. If the ER doesn't have an available custom bariatric leg-elevating scooter, then none exist. She's resigned to be "bed-bound" for no other reason than her own choice/preference.

My best guess is that the ER doc didn’t find anything wrong on x-ray, so due to her complaints went with his best guess of ligament tear and sent her to ortho for followup. Ortho would know how to handle this and give a more official diagnosis. IF she goes to PT there (lol), she will absolutely hate it. Those guys tend to not fuck around.

Also, she needs to stop with the high pain tolerance crap. She’s a whiny little bitch who used to carry around a jumbo tub of Tylenol in her purse.

I had to take a friend to the ER for a twisted knee last month. They took an X-ray to confirm no fracture. However, they were adamant that they could NOT determine soft tissue damage (ligaments) without an MRI. They also said they never do MRIs in the ER unless it is a life and death circumstance. They outfitted my friend with a brace and crutches and told them to follow up with an orthopedist..then we were done. The ER never contacted again and it was up to my friend to look into it themselves. They had to go to orthopedist to determine soft tissue damage and referral for PT ; which they did immediately since they needed to be functional because they are not a retarded lump that can rot in the house for weeks.

Likely they told her that it was not a fracture and COULD BE a torn ligament (based on her unusual physiology they probably would have had a very difficult time diagnosing anything using range of movement or palpation) and she ran with "OMG I TORE SOMETHING!" . But in reality she has no idea what if anything is damaged because she doesn't need to know since she just wants to fart around in bed or couch all day,

Yeah there's no way she'll do the physical therapy, or maybe do one session and that's it. And she definitely wouldn't follow the at-home exercises they give you. I was wondering if they gave her a brace to help stabilize it for a bit, but I legitimately don't know if they make braces in her size. I'm assuming they don't or they're expensive/hard to get.
